Or Ellis Island.

Company sponsors a volunteer opportunity and buses us in from various locations.

The only thing I am not looking forward to is the 5:30 am bus trip.

I hope it doesn't rain.

But it should be fun.

It's stopped raining here already and no more is coming.

I would hope your company would do something more charitable.

That's very ambitious of you.

Bring a large sponge! :)

I'm confused. I thought we WANTED things to go green!

In my opinion, "I cleaned the Statue of Liberty" would look good on your next BAM questionnaire.

:D

So you don't think this is a worthy event?

It is a small piece and only one part associated with the companies support of the National Park Service.

I don't think it is appropriate to tell you how much was pledged in the past two weeks for the cyclone and earthquake victims. It is a huge amount.

And this is one of the few companies I have heard of that gives people up to 3 days a year to volunteer without using their vactaion time to do it.

How does your company stack up?

And I think this is a great thing to take my children to do.

We do a lot better - even though we took a financial hit last quarter. About three years ago I did a Habitat for Humanity build of a dozen homes. I'm too crippled now to do that again.

I just don't see doing volunteer work for the National Park Service as charity.

Glad I read the thread.

I thought "cleaning the Statue of Liberty" might be a new euphemism.

I think that it's a very cool volunteer job.

Quite frankly, I don't see how you can criticize. Either you are the most philanthropic person in the entire world who works for the most giving company in the world or you are the biggest jackass on the bored.

I'm leaning toward the latter.

Hang on there, Toque!

You can't just give that title away with so many fighting for it!

This just cracked me up!

Um, yeah, the competition is tough, but these comments do put him as a front runner.

LOL

I know...I know...such a tough call.

And I haven't even had my Friday night cocktail yet.

I honestly hope you were joking when you posted your reply.

Lotsa peeps do Habitat for Humanity.

Better someone cleaning the Statue or "doing volunteer work for the National Park Service" than making judgments on whose charity is the worthiest.

Srsly.

Tonight could be interesting.

And another thing--sometimes people aren't aware of how much of our natural areas-preserves, parks, wetlands, monuments either come into being or are maintained. Quite often they're the result of corporate-developer/billionaire/local company-sponsorship along with cooperation with local governmental entities, state entities and national entities. And, individual contributions. I know this, because I live in an area, The Woodlands, that has massive land set aside for preserve purposes. Some land donated, some pathways improved via matching grants, etcetera etcetera etcetera. Jeff and I haven't been trekking these pathways for nothing.

I would think Christie's company cleaning the Statue of Liberty might have an effect on whomever/whoever/whatever's (insert your preferred word here) family of five, making $30,000 a year, and that they might appreciate the tax relief offered, state or federal, that flows from her group rather than snatching if from their paycheck. Someone has to fix stuff.

If someone offers to do it, I think that's grand.

Lotsa peeps do Habitat for Humanity.
We have a build set up for this summer. It is a yearly event that is in the middle of the week and a healthy percentage of employees go. I can't wait.

I have a lot of catching up to do. My mom has been involved enough to have earned a golden hammer.
