This question turned up in a One-Day Quiz:
5. Only one writer awarded the Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction has also won it in the category of Fiction. However, his winning 1,000-page "novel" has been hard to classify. A 1979 New York Times article discusses this difficulty: "In the issue of Nov. 4 The Times's bestā€seller list will say, 'This is the true story of Gary Gilmore's life and death, but because the author, the publisher and the bookstores are calling it fiction, it is listed as such.'"
