I just figured out something that could change a lot about the final solution, without changing much of what has been done so far. :)

I initially threw out Melly's guess of NANA for Zola, thinking that slam was a much better fit for Martina Navratilova. But now it occurs to me that Hoyle could be a fit for slam, given his background with bridge, CARD could go with Helen Steiner Rice, and NANA for Zola.

My apologies, Melly.
I wasn't sure about Nana and Zola off the bat, either, Mr. K.

Glad it worked because I really liked it. :D

I think the place your getting SLAM is already used for something else.

Aw, durn it. That was probably the ISLAM one, wasn't it.

Well, I still think NANA is better for Zola and CARD for Rice (especially since it's singular). I'll have to see if I can find something else for Hoyle.

That actually helps because I was wondering why I had an odd number of clues left.

What we have left
Game #206: Dissociation

Identify the 120 people in the clues below and match them into 60 pairs according to a Tangredi, or principle you must discover for yourself. No names will be used twice.

4. ANDRE-MARIE AMPERE

36. PIERRE OMIDYAR (Parviz Morad Omidyar)

*44. MANOLETE (Manuel Laureano Rodriguez Sanchez)

47. EDMOND HOYLE

*56. HAROLD (L.) ICKES

*71. ALLAN PINKERTON

94. EADWEARD MUYBRIDGE (Edward James Muggeridge)

*99. JOHNNY MERCER

104. VOLTAIRE (Francois-Marie Arouet)

113. JOSE CLEMENTE OROZCO

The stars are for ones that I think might work:

44. manuELLAureanorodriguezsanchez, goes with 99. Johnny Mercer (Ella Fitzgerald did a mighty mean interpretation of the Mercer songbook.)

56. harolDICKes, goes with 71. Allan Pinkerton. First private detective and all.

I thought I might have something with FRANCOISM in Voltaire’s real name, but I can’t make it fit anyone.

I can't edit my last response without getting the weird Internal Server Error for some odd code, but.... dammit!

You need to get rid of part of someone's name to make it work. And 104 isn't Voltaire.

Removing the Marie from Ampere's name nets DREAM, which could go with Johnny Mercer...

That puts Manolete back into play, and I really want Orozco's name to make Toro, but that pesky E....

104. is PIERRE BAYLE, which nets EBAY for Omidyar...

HeLEN Steiner Rice could go with Muybridge, which would allow Oscar de la Renta to go with Hoyle as we originally thought.

Frank used the word "card" in Rice's clue, and I don't think he would have phrased the clue that way if "Card" was the matching word.

PrimO LEvi could yield Ole and match with Manolete, which would put Kim Philby back in play. His name yields "imp," which might match with someone.

Looking to kickstart the game again. I'm not sure that Frank confirmed that all our previous matches were correct. But after removing the Ebay and Dick pairings, which seem to be correct, from Mr. Kelley's last list, here's what is left:

*44. MANOLETE (Manuel Laureano Rodriguez Sanchez)

47. EDMOND HOYLE

94. EADWEARD MUYBRIDGE (Edward James Muggeridge)

113. JOSE CLEMENTE OROZCO

If Helen Steiner Rice yields LENS to go with Muybridge, this allows Oscar de la Renta (CARD) to match with Hoyle.

Manolete could match with Primo Levi (OLE), which would bring Kim Philby (whose name yields imp) back in the puzzle. I just don't see any group of letters in Orozco's name that yields a word, either with or without his middle name.

It might have helped if I had spelled Jose Clemente Orozco correctly. Unfortunately, I left off the second E in Clement.....

Was it intended to make TORO for Manolete as I'd initially hoped it did when we were trying to finish this off?

It looks like it makes MENTOR, if that can be matched with anything.

I'm pretty sure you're right. We already matched TORA with Yamamoto, so matching TORO with Manolete is the same principle. And if my guesses about Helen Steiner Rice matching with Muybridge and Oscar de la Renta with Hoyle are right, that finishes the puzzle.

Yes. Sorry for the goofs.

I'm working on my next one. It's a movie game and I promise I won't screw anything up.
