RIP Paul Orndorff

#1 Post by T_Bone0806 » Mon Jul 12, 2021 7:04 pm

Wrestling's "Mr. Wonderful".

Headlined the very first Wrestlemania, teaming with Rowdy Roddy Piper in the main event against Hulk Hogan and Mr. T. One of the best villains of the 80's.

Like many heel wrestlers, Orndorff was a genuinely nice guy when the cameras weren't rolling and very popular with fans after his retirement. He also had a lot of health problems, including throat cancer about ten years ago and the dementia that led to his death. I've included a clip of a conversation with Roddy Piper and Mean Gene Okerlund that was probably filmed shortly before Piper's death. Three great ring personalities, now sadly all gone. You can see at the end of the clip when Orndorff shakes Piper's hand, that he has to use his left hand to hold up his right arm to shake hands.

Piper is my all-time favorite. Whether heel or face, he was ALWAYS amusing and entertaining. Had that unique gift of making you laugh while hating him.
