Well, actually it's been 10 years and it was mostly bottles and bones (both broken). This year is the first Battle of the Bay preseason game since 2011!!

How old were you when you realized that the NFL had actually banned preseason games between these two teams?

I was today years old.

In other news, my apologies to Vandal for not playing Jamboree. I have been trying to follow and it looks like a good time was had by all!

Unfortunately, right around the time my right wrist and thumb healed, I developed a bad trigger thumb on my precious, irreplaceable left hand. Horrors! If I thought typing was bad before... And of course I jacked up my right hand again by overuse so the past few months so half of my hand is numb most of the time. Basically, I've been unable to use my hands for much of anything. Turns out that opposable thumbs really are important!

I'm finally seeing an orthopaedic specialist tomorrow, so I'm hoping that I can get some answers, treatment, relief, I'll take anything I can get at this point!

I'd cross my fingers for luck, but.....ha!

My left thumb also has osteoarthritis (I originally typed this as osterarthritis, but that's my new countertop oven....ha!_now, the right has been that way for several years. But the biggest problems were bone spurs, sharp edges and some gaps. I opted for cortisone shots before going directly to surgeries, I'm still going through some cortisone burn right now, but ahhhh, liquid gold, my old friend. Can't wait until we become reacquainted.

Not sure if it's technique that's improved or just the change in doctor, but cortisone shots have gotten a lot better since the old days. They sprayed some cold stuff (chlorine hydrate or something) while doing the shot and I'm not sure if it was numbing or just distracting the mind, but the needle went into the ol' thenar a lot easier than I expected.

I also found out that I have Dupuytren's Disease (aka Viking Disease). And all these years I just thought that lump on my palm was just a lump. Au contraire, mon frere, it's apparently a genetic mutation that occurs in people of Scandinavian heritage. Scandinavian, what the fudge??? I told her that some Viking must have showed in Ireland to do a little pillaging and I am the result. She said it's quite likely since sometimes it's also called Celtic Hand.

The cold stuff is Lidocaine. They also mix that with Cortozone.

I've had Dupuytren's Disease operations four times. My doctor for the last one said he doesn't like to use the injection because it spreads and affects healthy tissue.

The Greatest Ever NFL Quarterback has been advertising for some kind of gunk to treat Dupuytren's, which I also have. I guess Viking ancestry is where all four of my mom's brothers got their red hair and 6-foot+ height, and I got red highlights. I should have been a 5-10 redhead, but no... oh well.

My older brother has had two surgeries, and my younger brother and I are pre-treating it (I just made that up) by forcibly stretching the ring and little fingers on our right hands. It works. Our left hands don't seem to be affected.

Mom and her older sis had it too and were treated surgically. When they were first diagnosed, they were told it affected mostly men of northern European ancestry. Yeah, right. Again . . . oh well.

First thing my mom said was "Is that the thing John Elway does commercials about?". I don't know, I've never paid attention. Come to find out, it is! I think he advertises some sort of injection that breaks up the collagen.

I wonder if it has something to do with hand dominance, since you and your brothers were on the right (I'm assuming that you're both righthanded) and mine is on my left. Heard the same thing about most in males, apparently 30% of men in Norway have some form of it.

My lump has grown a little bit over the years but not enough to give me trouble. But now I'll know to get it checked out if it starts getting out of hand (ha!). At least I now have an answer of why I have occasional bouts of intense itching inside of my hand.
