Thanks! My daughter is freezing her butt off in Santa Monica, California, and I'm burning mine off here in Arizona. We had a long phone conversation.

No, evidently some power companies are taking advantage of a part of an energy saving program that homeowners volunteer for, but without being aware of this little provision. The companies are allowed to remotely adjust the smart thermostats "during peak energy events".
