So, can't blame my brain solely on this. We get the grandbabes a couple of shares of stuff for bdays, etc. We've bought recycling things and futurey things. Then they get bought out and we don't know who the heck they are. So when we get proxy vote things we pretend we know what the hell they are. I mean we know what's in our main account, but........yeesh.

Buyouts are pretty straightforward... you just gotta know fractions.
But it's the spinoffs, where you retain some of the original shares and also own some new company shares.... even tax attorneys find those unfathomable.

Some of ours changed names completely, so fractions, meh. Just trying to figure out who they are.
