Hard to google something when you don't know what it is...

What is the term for someone who is an expert at identifying who wrote something?

Such as a note is found in a treasure chest on the beach, and it is signed Blackbeard. We want to know if Blackbeard really wrote it, so we would get this type of expert to determine if it was.

I'm not talking about a handwriting expert, but someone who would know by the "tone or style" of the writing. Sort of how it was figured out Richard Bachman was Stephen King.

A more specific term might be stylometry.

I wonder what the result of this type of analysis would be when applied to something like Rolling Thunder, which John Varley wrote as a clear homage to, and in the style of, Robert Heinlein. --Bob
