$25K: I've never seen that word before in my life. I'll ATA first and see if they have a clue. PAF if their answer is not definitive.

$50K: No clue, and I doubt if this is Googleable. Switch it.

Best case scenario is that I'll be playing for $100,000 with 50:50 and PAF remaining.

I've never heard this word, either. I thought the root was "audio"--something about sound? But none of the choices seemed related to that.

Merriam-Webster says I was wrong about that hunch.
Main Entry: min·au·dière
Pronunciation: \ˌmē-nōd-ˈyer\
Function: noun
Etymology: French, feminine of minaudier affected, coquettish, from minauder to mince
Date: 1940
: a small decorative case for carrying small articles (as cosmetics or jewelry)
What does a purse have to do with mincing? :?

56% of the audience knew the yiddish word?

Some people need their NYC card taken away.

Even though Meredith always calls it the "New York audience," they're not all from the city. Might have been a lot of tourists that day.

Maybe - but 44% of them?

That is not an obscure yiddish word.

Depends on how good you are at Googling. [robert de niro "claims to be related to"] gets it in one, right at the top.

No, but it's not used all that much, either. My understanding of the word has always been pleasantly plump in a specific manner, i.e., buxom. There should be a photo of Mamie Van Doren or early Bette Midler next to the definition. Maybe Dolly Parton, too.

Whatever he does, looking at the $100K question with the STQ left isn't bad, considering the recent string of players. Would be nice to see someone to make it to the $500K question.

Extremely lucky break, as the question asked about Duvall, not De Niro.

He's a WE®, but wants to teach, so that makes him OK in my book.

The scene from Back to the Future came immediately to mind.

Isn't Kyle afraid that John will lose his man card for knowing the answer? As for me, I have no idea, so it's time to use a lifeline. I don't know if the audience would know this, so it's probably time to PAF.

I would have gone with ATA on this one, although I suspect the percentages would have been close between B and D. Depending upon the outcome, I'd go with the 50/50 and hope that B and D weren't the two remaining answers.

Except it was Duvall, not De Niro. Unless the transcriptionist was in error.

My typo in the post. Meant Duvall.
