Death certificates are still coming in and the count could rise. But officials expect a substantial decline will endure, despite worries that COVID-19 could lead to more suicides.
And if deaths by suicide decreased in 2020, as did deaths from the flu, then the increase in total mortality due to COVID becomes even greater than the raw numbers would suggest.
They used to have a club of sportswriters here in Atlanta called the 100% Wrong Club, based on what they said was their record at predicting games. Today's Republicans could give them a run for their money.
