RIP Richard Rush

#1 Post by silverscreenselect » Mon Apr 12, 2021 9:56 pm

Director best known for his Oscar nominated The Stunt Man, one of the most bizarre but visually striking cult movies of all time, as well as an excellent mismatched cop buddy movie, Freebie and the Bean.

Age 91.

OK, earlier today, I watched the embedded video of a movie I had never heard of "The Stuntman."

Now, a clip from The Stuntman is at the top row of my Youtube feed.

either

1) Google/Youtube is that good and knows that I watched a Richard Rush/Stuntman thing here

Or

2) It is at the top of my Youtube feed because of his recent death

That's one of Peter O'Toole's best films. (One of many.)

Whenever a celebrity dies, clips about that celebrity are popular in YouTube searches. Since Rush is really only known for one movie, it follows that clips about the Stunt Man would be at the top of the list.

BTW, Freebie and the Bean is an excellent mismatched cop buddy film with James Caan and Alan Arkin. I'd rank it in the top three of that subgenre, along with 48 Hours and Midnight Run (neither of which is technically a "cop" buddy film).
