Tentative California reopening date: June 15

#1 Post by Bob78164 » Tue Apr 06, 2021 2:09 pm

California is tentatively planning to fully reopen without capacity limits on June 15. This depends on adequate supplies of vaccine being available and on case and hospitalization numbers remaining low. --Bob

Texas' numbers, both new cases and active hospitalizations, continue to fall after our full opening on March 10th.

Many businesses are still requiring masks, many are suggesting them, many are not communicating a position.

I've been using hospitalizations to track things. Too much wiggle room in case reports, too much delay (and some wiggle room) in death reports.

Our hospitalization numbers have been steadily dropping since reaching a high of 22,665 on January 11, 2021. As of yesterday, California had 2,373 hospitalizations from known or suspected COVID-19 infections, the lowest number since tracking started. Do you know the corresponding number for Texas? --Bob

Lab confirmed Covid patients is 2,882 down from the high of 14,218 in January (the 11th as well....which now looks suspicious) and the lowest since June.

That's right around when I'd expect peak hospitalizations resulting from Christmas gatherings, so I don't see the date as suspicious.

If I've done the math right, our peak was higher (per capita) but our current hospitalization numbers are lower. --Bob
