Congratulations Georgia Tech - ACC Trivia

Congratulations to Georgia Tech, which won the ACC tournament over Florida State tonight. It brought up some interesting trivia about the ACC, which has held tournaments annually since 1954 (except for last year, when the tourney was cancelled midstream), but has been overwhelmingly dominated by the four North Carolina schools (and Duke and North Carolina in particular).

1) Out of the 67 ACC tournaments, only two have not included at least one North Carolina school in the final. Ironically, Georgia Tech won both those tournaments, over Virginia in 1990 and FSU this year.

2) This was the first year since 1996 that either Duke or North Carolina did not play in the final. Tech also played in that 1996 final losing to Wake Forest.

3) The four North Carolina schools have won 53 of the 67 tournaments. Duke and North Carolina have won 39 of those 53. The other 13 schools that have played in the ACC at one time or another have won a total of 14 tournaments.
