Lyrically Speaking - 2/11/21

#1 Post by littlebeast13 » Wed Feb 10, 2021 11:18 pm

It's the penultimate game of the 2021 LSWE... so why not celebrate it with the penultimate letter of the alphabet, good ol' Y. Stuck in the second to last spot in the alphabet, Y is the transgender of letters who can't decide if it's a consonant or a vowel. It's also not a letter a lot of song titles start with, short of a very common second person pronoun. I challenged myself to fill out a game of songs whose titles begin with 12 different Y words, which wasn't easy since my old lyrics site I used to use that listed songs by letter bit the dust last year.... but here it is!

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...

1. No man, does it all by himself
I said, young man, put your pride on the shelf

2. Don't let them put you down, don't let 'em push you around,
Don't let 'em ever change your point of view.

3. But I think that you're wild
When you flash that fragile smile

4. I don't even know
How to love you
Just the way you
Want me to, oh, baby

5. In the town where I was born
Lived a man who sailed to sea

6. I was up in the club wit my homies
Trying to get a lil V-I
Keep it down on the low key

7. We walked together hand in hand
Cross miles and miles of golden sand
But now it's over and done

8. Well, it's a doggone shame but never too late for change
So if your luck runs low
Just reach out and call His name, His name

9. She doesn't give you time for questions
As she locks up your arm in hers
And you follow till your sense of
Which direction completely disappears

10. Well, guess who`s
Back in circulation
Now I don`t know what
You might have heard
But what I need right now
Is the original good time girl

11. Anyway, the thing, what I really mean
Yours are the sweetest eyes I've ever seen

12. Well, I'm not dumb, but I can't understand
How he can lift me in the air just by raising his hand

1. No man, does it all by himself

YMCA, Village People

2. Don't let them put you down, don't let 'em push you around,
Don't let 'em ever change your point of view.

This is probably one of those "easy" ones that might get me a JJC point but nothing else.

Let's try Young Love, Pat Boone. If this actually shows up later on, I'll change it.

3. But I think that you're wild
When you flash that fragile smile

You might think. Dunno artist.

4. I don't even know
How to love you
Just the way you
Want me to, oh, baby

Yakety Sax, Boots Randolph.

See Note 2.

5. In the town where I was born
Lived a man who sailed to sea

Yellow Submarine, Beatles.

6. I was up in the club wit my homies
Trying to get a lil V-I
Keep it down on the low key

7. We walked together hand in hand
Cross miles and miles of golden sand
But now it's over and done
That was yesterday, and

Yesterday's gone. This is pretty old -- maybe Young Love will show up!

8. Well, it's a doggone shame but never too late for change
So if your luck runs low
Just reach out and call His name, His name

9. She doesn't give you time for questions
As she locks up your arm in hers
And you follow till your sense of
Which direction completely disappears

Year of the Cat, Al Stewart

10. Well, guess who`s
Back in circulation
Now I don`t know what
You might have heard
But what I need right now
Is the original good time girl

11. Anyway, the thing, what I really mean
Yours are the sweetest eyes I've ever seen

Good thing you told me the title had to start with Y. I would have called it "This is your song."

Your song, Elton John

12. Well, I'm not dumb, but I can't understand
How he can lift me in the air just by raising his hand

Don't let 'em ever change your point of view.
Young Turks - Rod Stewart (I can't remember if it was Ned Jarrett or Buddy Baker, but one of the old NASCAR announcers from back in the days when Dick Trickle had me watching the races every Sunday is literally the only person I've ever heard use the phrase "young turks" before. Until then, I always thought it was just some randomly stupid title Rod decided to slap on this song...)

3. But I think that you're wild
When you flash that fragile smile
You Might Think - Cars

4. I don't even know
How to love you
Just the way you
Want me to, oh, baby
Yes, I'm Ready - Barbara Mason, or the only version I know, Teri DeSario and KC

5. In the town where I was born
Lived a man who sailed to sea
Yellow Submarine - Beatles

6. I was up in the club wit my homies
Trying to get a lil V-I
Keep it down on the low key
Yeah! - Usher featuring Ludacris, Lil Jon, Lil Ballz, Dip Diddy, Pimpdaddy Poopyhead, Grandamaster Dumbass, and probably Poser Fleaballs as well... because it isn't a hip hop song if you don't invite the whole posse into the studio with you!

7. We walked together hand in hand
Cross miles and miles of golden sand
But now it's over and done
Yesterday's Gone - Chad and Jeremy

8. Well, it's a doggone shame but never too late for change
So if your luck runs low
Just reach out and call His name, His name
Yah Mo Be There - James Ingram and Michael McDonald (Other than its tenure as a Mecca earworm, that this was on the charts in late 83-early 84 when I was listening to the Top 40 countdown every Sunday morning is probably the only reason I don't consider this song to be an obscurity...)

9. She doesn't give you time for questions
As she locks up your arm in hers
And you follow till your sense of
Which direction completely disappears
Year of the Cat - Al Stewart

10. Well, guess who`s
Back in circulation
Now I don`t know what
You might have heard
But what I need right now
Is the original good time girl
Yankee Rose - David Lee Roth (Not one of Diamond Dave's best remembered solo hits, but I end up having to pull this one out a lot for theme games...)

11. Anyway, the thing, what I really mean
Yours are the sweetest eyes I've ever seen
Your Song - Elton John (Maybe it's because I'm an antisocial unromantic type of person, but I couldn't tell you the eye color of any person I've ever met. Seriously....)

12. Well, I'm not dumb, but I can't understand
How he can lift me in the air just by raising his hand
Yoda - Weird Al Yankovic (Back before Yoda sold out and became cute....)

Image Bonus: Show me Y!

The only thing that kept TBone from picking up a second straight IBB was the fact that Hottie copied off his paper, because I was definitely hoping someone was going to use Nancy Kerrigan. Such that it is, it's another IBB for Weasel, because the Chinese YMCA cracked my ass up...
