Four that I'm OK with if Jethro Tull is still excluded, but the rest should be behind JT. Did they bet on Rock 'n Roll or something?

For a Hall that seems to prefer innovation and influence over commercial success, how in the hell is Devo still on the outside looking in? That surprised me almost as much as Tina Turner not being in already...

Todd Rundgren was my first concert

It's hard to get excited about the new crop when so many 70s/80s stalwarts have been snubbed.

Warren Zevon
Pat Benatar
Bad Company
Supertramp
the aforementioned Jethro Tull
Boston
The Guess Who
Joe Cocker
Blue Oyster Cult
Tommy James and the Shondells
plus others...

There are just too many deserving bands/performers from decades ago.

I don't know as much about the latest crop to decide if they are worthy, so I'd go with:

Carole King
Tina Turner
The Go-Go's
Todd Rundgren

Tina is already in with Ike.

Carole King is already in with Gerry Goffin.

The fact that Joan Jett and the Blackhearts (wannabe Pat Benatars) got in before Pat Benatar is troubling, annoyingly so.

Pat's no Gladys Knight.

Not following you. I don't think much, if any, of Benatar's work is remotely similar to Gladys Knight's, nor does Pat present herself to look anything like Glady's. And Gladys has been in the Hall for 25 years. What am I missing?

Pure sarcasm on my part. I never thought Gladys and her Pips were anything special, but still got in easily. I use her as a comparison to those who really should get in.

Sort of like when a baseball player doesn't make the HoF, one could say, "He's no Harold Baines."

Cross-pollenating between halls can be dangerous.

Isn't that kind of like saying Bob Dylan was a Bruce Springsteen wannabe?

Reminds me of Pete Burns complaining how everyone accused him of copying off of Boy George when it was Boy George who stole his look then became more successful...

Is Jann Wenner still basically in charge of voting? I firmly believe The Monkees should be in, but never will be as long as Wenner has anything to do with it. I also think Weird Al Yankovic should be in - no one has done what he has with the quality for as long as he has. I am also surprised that there has never been any support for Phil Collins solo.

I agree entirely about Jethro Tull. I would also favor Carly Simon along with Carole King getting in if they want to expand the female presence.

I don't understand the support for the Go-Gos. I like the Beauty and the Beat album, but they really don't have anything of note beyond that and even that album has a good bit of filler.

I would not think that if it were the Runaways nominated. They were more punk and outrageous, but the Blackhearts look was, to me anyway, scaled back and looked to be modeled after Benatar who came on the scene before the Blackhearts. Plus Benatar had better music, IMO. But what do I know? I like Air Supply.

They were the first all-female band who wrote their own music, played their own instruments and topped the charts. They certainly inspired and paved the way for future acts.

I think a lot of people (not necessarily krox, but others I have known) equate the Go-Gos with Belinda Carlisle and her vibe. But Jane Wiedlin and Gina Schock are very underappreciated, in my opinion. Possibly the bass player, too, but I know much less about her.

For me it's Percy Sledge. One megahit that is still heard today, otherwise not much of a long-lasting legacy to speak of.

Bingo. They're nominated for being groundbreakers rather than a substantial body of work. The trouble is that the Hall is extremely inconsistent when inducting acts..what is their criteria? Influence..popularity..longevity..artistry? For each one of those descriptions there are artists that have been inexplicably locked out of the Hall while others are welcomed in to the head-scratching of many. It certainly lends credence to the notion that most of the inductees, aside from the absolute no-brainers, are personal favorites of the Hall board and largely dismissive of fan popularity.

I hope that this Bored is still around in 11 years, because I have to see T-Bone’s reaction when Taylor Swift is inducted in her first year of eligibility. 🤗

Last year, NPR did a recurring segment called "One-Hit Wonders - Second Best Songs." which included Percy Sledge. And as I listened, I wondered the same thing - how is a one-hit wonder qualified for the Hall of Fame? Maybe Bo Donaldson & the Haywoods have a point after all (that's sarcasm). Have we already covered the notion that the Hall is misnamed, and that some substantial percentage of the acts are not Rock and Roll?

I loved my visit to the Hall, and have an expensive memento, but they need to either change the name or change the nominees.
