Lyrically Speaking - 2/3/21

#1 Post by littlebeast13 » Wed Feb 03, 2021 7:28 am

Theme Wednesday! Because you can have a theme game any day of the week! I'll bet most of you can get this one if you get enough songs, too... unless you go for the wrong theme.

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist, 3 points for the theme...

1. Sail on, on a distant highway, yeah
I've got to keep on chasing a dream
I've gotta be on my way
Wish there was something I could say

2. Once upon a time
You dressed so fine
Threw the bums a dime
In your prime, didn't you

3. Welcome to the big time
You`re bound to be a star
And even if you
Don`t go all the way
I know that you`ll go far

4. Don't it make you feel bad
When you're trying
To find your way home
And you don't know
Which way to go

5. Sock hop, soda pop
Basketball and auto shop
The only thing that got you off
Was breaking all the rules

6. Oh, no, no, no
Oh, no, no, no
And I don`t know if
I`m ever coming home

7. Tell me, tell me, tell me
Come on, tell me the answer
Well, you may be a lover
But you ain't no dancer

8. She was tired cause
Her mind was a-draggin
I said get some sleep
And dream of rock and roll

9. Hold on to sixteen as long as you can
Changes come around real soon
Make us women and men

10. Just hit me with the truth,
Now, girl you're more than welcome to.
So give me one good reason,
Baby come on

11. Nowhere is there warmth to be found
Among those afraid of losing their ground
Rain gray town known for its sound
In places, small faces unbound

12. Time goes slowly but carries on
And now the best years
Have come and gone
You took me by surprise
I didn't realize

Theme?

Ugh! This has been driving me fricking crazy all day, so I'm just answering and getting it over with. Hopefully other people have figured it out so I can just slap my forehead and be done with it! Otherwise, I'll sit bolt up in bed at 3:37 am screaming "Perth Amboy"!

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist, 3 points for the theme...

1. Sail on, on a distant highway, yeah
I've got to keep on chasing a dream

Long Time - Boston

2. Once upon a time
You dressed so fine
Threw the bums a dime
In your prime, didn't you

Like a Rolling Stone - Bob Dylan

Threw the bums a dime??? As much as I love Dylan and as many damned times as I've heard this song and I always swore it was "did the bump and grind". I will very embarrassed if this has been brought up in a previous game and I missed it. Or worse, totally blocked it out of my mind and continued with the bump and grind....ha!

3. Welcome to the big time
You`re bound to be a star
And even if you
Don`t go all the way
I know that you`ll go far

4. Don't it make you feel bad
When you're trying

When the Levee Breaks - Led Zeppelin

5. Sock hop, soda pop
Basketball and auto shop
The only thing that got you off
Was breaking all the rules

James Dean - Eagles

This is the one that started my madness when I was singing it in the kitchen (yo, Hoyt!) earlier today and my brain went haywire....

6. Oh, no, no, no
Oh, no, no, no
And I don`t know if
I`m ever coming home

Last Train to Clarksville - Monkees

7. Tell me, tell me, tell me

Chevy Van - Sammy Johns

9. Hold on to sixteen as long as you can
Changes come around real soon

Jack and Diane - John Cougar

And this is the one that started me off on that James Dean scree, because of course I put it together with the Eagles song...

10. Just hit me with the truth,
Now, girl you're more than welcome to.
So give me one good reason,
Baby come on

Bye, Bye, Bye - NSync

So I was singing over and over again, 'too fast to live, too young to die, bye bye' Hey wait, Bye Bye!

Laughing - Guess Who

Theme?

Okay, so the title in the lyrics thing didn't go too far with the Led Zep and the Helter Skelter, etc. Then we have Byrds, Monkees, Beatles, Eagles, Cougar ... uh, and Bob Dylan. Damn! Okay, so Dylan wrote a Byrds song, and the Monkees were a parody of the Beatles... see my pain?? So I guess my official answer is

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Hey, at least I showed my work!

1. Sail on, on a distant highway, yeah
I've got to keep on chasing a dream
I've gotta be on my way
Wish there was something I could say
Long Time - Boston (It was a long, long time ago...)

2. Once upon a time
You dressed so fine
Threw the bums a dime
In your prime, didn't you
Like A Rolling Stone - Bob Dylan (I heard moss grows fat on them...)

3. Welcome to the big time
You`re bound to be a star
And even if you
Don`t go all the way
I know that you`ll go far
Don't Mean Nothing - Richard Marx (Read any good books on Richard lately?)

4. Don't it make you feel bad
When you're trying
To find your way home
And you don't know
Which way to go
When the Levee Breaks - Led Zeppelin (Better not drive there today...)

5. Sock hop, soda pop
Basketball and auto shop
The only thing that got you off
Was breaking all the rules
James Dean - Eagles (Mind if I borrow your coat, dude?)

6. Oh, no, no, no
Oh, no, no, no
And I don`t know if
I`m ever coming home
Last Train To Clarksville - Monkees (Three tickets for the coast, please! Wait, there's no coast in Clarksville...)

7. Tell me, tell me, tell me
Come on, tell me the answer
Well, you may be a lover
But you ain't no dancer
Helter Skelter - Beatles (No summer swelter now, though...)

8. She was tired cause
Her mind was a-draggin
I said get some sleep
And dream of rock and roll
Chevy Van - Sammy Johns (Not while the levee is breaking...)

9. Hold on to sixteen as long as you can
Changes come around real soon
Make us women and men
Jack and Diane - John Cougar (Mellencamp) (Dammit!! Why did I already have to use Jumping Jack Flash this year! Not that including it would have probably helped anyone...)

10. Just hit me with the truth,
Now, girl you're more than welcome to.
So give me one good reason,
Baby come on
Bye Bye Bye - N*Sync (One Bye too many, boys...)

11. Nowhere is there warmth to be found
Among those afraid of losing their ground
Rain gray town known for its sound
In places, small faces unbound
Eight Miles High - Byrds (So many of you got both this and Helter Skelter and couldn't put it together? Man, am I bad at estimating the difficulty of themes...)

12. Time goes slowly but carries on
And now the best years
Have come and gone
You took me by surprise
I didn't realize
Laughing - Guess Who (No, I was not laughing in delight that I tricked almost all of you...)

Theme?

American Pie by Don McLean, on the anniversary of The Day the Music Died!

It's funny, the one other theme I did that I thought would be easy that nobody figured out was the finale for a year I can't recall right now... but it was 46 songs that kinda sung out "Bohemian Rhapsody" in order. I guess I'm just a really date oriented person who will see a certain date on a calendar (or the computer when I log in), and instantly think of something associated with it. Seeing 2/3 will always make me think the plane crash and this song. I know, some people can't even remember the birthdays of their family members!

Image Bonus: If you know the theme, you know what to do...

Since mrkelley was the only one to get the theme, and thus submitted the only valid image.... he wins the IBB by default! Congrats on making some hay over everyone today!

Now that you point it out I guess I get it. But I feel so much less dumb. Your song descriptions show the leaps you made. I would have never made those.

Once I looked at other people's answers, I did pick up on the theme, but it was too late.

Under the wire?
1. Sail on, on a distant highway, yeah
I've got to keep on chasing a dream
I've gotta be on my way
Wish there was something I could say

2. Once upon a time
You dressed so fine
Threw the bums a dime
In your prime, didn't you

3. Welcome to the big time
You`re bound to be a star
And even if you
Don`t go all the way
I know that you`ll go far

4. Don't it make you feel bad
When you're trying
To find your way home
And you don't know
Which way to go

5. Sock hop, soda pop
Basketball and auto shop
The only thing that got you off
Was breaking all the rules

6. Oh, no, no, no
Oh, no, no, no
And I don`t know if
I`m ever coming home

7. Tell me, tell me, tell me
Come on, tell me the answer
Well, you may be a lover
But you ain't no dancer

8. She was tired cause
Her mind was a-draggin
I said get some sleep
And dream of rock and roll

9. Hold on to sixteen as long as you can
Changes come around real soon
Make us women and men

Jack and Diane, John Mellancamp

10. Just hit me with the truth,
Now, girl you're more than welcome to.
So give me one good reason,
Baby come on

11. Nowhere is there warmth to be found
Among those afraid of losing their ground
Rain gray town known for its sound
In places, small faces unbound

12. Time goes slowly but carries on
And now the best years
Have come and gone
You took me by surprise
I didn't realize

Theme?

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that fits the theme of today's game.

Image Bonus: If you know the theme, you know what to do...
