Lyrically Speaking - 1/29/21
Here's the fourth Friday request game of the season, and the much anticipated short snippet lyrics game.... this time, provided by YOU! While I worked with a few of you on refining your submissions, I let most of them ride and only take partial responsibility should they not in fact be unique! Like it matters anyway. Only 10 players sent me their short snippets to work with, and one of those players just submitted one song.... so with my pair added into the game, that gives us one over the normal total of 20 I usually use for this game.
Good luck, and remember, you have all weekend should you like to stew on these...
1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist, 5 points each for identifying which two snippets are mine...

Kroxquo Bonus: Name a song with artist that doesn't contain any unique lyrical snippets because it doesn't contain ANY lyrics.
Image Bonus: Take any of the 21 lyrical snippets above (please say which one you're using) and show me an image that would describe it.

1. Yellow matter custard
I am the Walrus -- The Beatles
2. Gimme a cheeseburger
3. Indiana boys
Mary Jane's Last Dance -- Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
4. A nocturnal vacation
Welcome to my Nightmare -- Alice Cooper
5. And sealing wax
Puff the Magic Dragon -- Peter, Paul, and Mary
6. Good looking riverboat
7. Vodka and lime
Hazy Shade of Winter -- Simon and Garfunkel
8. Fingertips have memories
9. Choking on the splinters
10. Swollen-hand blues
11. Deutschmarks or dollars
Private Dancer -- Tina Turner
12. Faded feathers
Copacabana -- Barry Manilow
13. Screaming Argonauts
Birdhouse in your Soul -- They Might be Giants
14. Star shoe shimmy shuffle
15. Libra sun
I Just Called to say I Love You -- Stevie Wonder
16. Picture has a mustache
17. Waggly tail
How Much is that Doggy in the Window -- Patti Page
18. Young chiquitas
We're an American Band -- Grand Funk
19. Nasty little feet
Short People -- Randy Newman
20. Screwed-down hairdo
21. Magic swirling ship
Which two of these did I add to the game? 3 and 11
Kroxquo Bonus: Name a song with artist that doesn't contain any unique lyrical snippets because it doesn't contain ANY lyrics.
Theme from A Summer Place -- Percy Faith
Image Bonus: Take any of the 21 lyrical snippets above (please say which one you're using) and show me an image that would describe it. Birdhouse in your soul

Re: Lyrically Speaking - 1/29/21
1. Yellow matter custard
I Am The Walrus - Beatles (This was the song going in that I feared would get duplicate submissions, since it was always a popular Krox for this game. As it turned out, only one of you went to the Walrus well of lyrical soup...)
2. Gimme a cheeseburger
Living in the USA - Steve Miller Band (A song whose existence I wouldn't even be aware of had it not been a staple of VH1 Classic's All Star Jams...)
3. Indiana boys
Mary Jane's Last Dance - Tom Petty
4. A nocturnal vacation
Welcome To My Nightmare - Alice Cooper
5. And sealing wax
Puff the Magic Dragon - Peter Paul and Mary (And close enough to a lyric in "19th Nervous Breakdown," that I went ahead and gave Hottie one point for that answer...)
6. Good looking riverboat
Sweet Blindness - Fifth Dimension (These are the kind of funny looking snippets I love to pull out of songs.... though I've never even heard of this one before!)
7. Vodka and lime
Hazy Shade of Winter - Simon & Garfunkel (This line is definitely not in the Bangles version, and not being as familiar with the original, had to confirm it was there...)
8. Fingertips have memories
Flagpole Sitta - Harvey Danger (I love this song, and there are a ton of good snippets that could be pulled from it. This is one that would have stumped me, though...)
9. Choking on the splinters
Loser - Beck (Beck is the king of the short snippet game, as he made a career out of piecing together "songs" like a kidnapper would create a ransom note from magazines...)
10. Swollen-hand blues
Nobody Home - Pink Floyd
11. Deutschmarks or dollars
Private Dancer - Tina Turner (The line before the one I always love to ref in my writing, American Express will do nicely, thank you....)
12. Faded feathers
Copacabana (And Some Parenthetical Mess That Drove Lola Insane) - Barry Manilow
13. Screaming Argonauts
Birdhouse in Your Soul - They Might Be Giants
14. Star shoe shimmy shuffle
Little Willy - (The) Sweet
15. Libra sun
I Just Called To Say I Love You - Stevie Wonder (Who just skipped August, because.... fuck August!)
16. Picture has a mustache
Swlabr - Cream
17. Waggly tail
How Much Is That Squirrel Doggie In The Window - Patti Page (Other than the usual misattributions, I could find nothing that said Doris Day recorded this song... but if anyone can verify that, I'll refund the point to the three who guessed her)
18. Young chiquitas
We're An American Band - Grand Funk Railroad
19. Nasty little feet
Short People - Randy Newman
20. Screwed-down hairdo
Ziggy Stardust - David Bowie
21. Magic swirling ship
Hey Mr. Tambourine Man - Byrds and That Guy Who Wrote it
Which two of these did I add to the game?
#15 and #18 (Congrats to Vandal for being the only one to even identify one of them! It's funny that so many people knee-jerked #13, since if you knew what song that was, you HAD to know who submitted it...)
Image Bonus: Take any of the 21 lyrical snippets above (please say which one you're using) and show me an image that would describe it.
I ask this same IB question each time I run this game, and it's always fun to see how many people are going to send me an image of one of the songs rather than the snippet itself like I asked. This year may have set a record! That's OK, you all still got credit... though IBB consideration only went to snippet images. And the winner there is Weasel with way too many piggies!

JJC Points:
frank gets 3 JJC points for the love child of Tweety and Elmer Fudd...
Vandal gets a supermax for Puppies on a Roll!!!! One of my blog followers is a Brit, and he referred to Andrex (which we know as Cottonelle) as Puppies on a Roll... which went on to become a running gag in my comic strip I drew back in the day.... only with Buster in place of the puppy mascot, it was now Possums on a Roll!

Weasel gets a supermax for having a nasty little foot fetish...
Panic gets 2 JJC points for memories of those bolt-on toupees they used to advertise in the 90's...
Sprots gets a supermax for trying to be funny, and for only featuring ONE Indiana boy rather than boys plural...
Krox gets a JJC point for the CFL. Since it's snowing, I'll assume that game was in July...
ear gets 2 JJC points for Kroxing 4'33"...
jarnon gets 2 JJC points for adding a puppy...
TBone gets 2 JJC points for blending in songs 4 and 10, and for being, I think, the first one other than Earl to use that definitive article in front of Sweet...
melly gets 2 JJC points for a member of the Ceegar Guild...
mrk gets a JJC point for memories of Curly's head X-ray...
Earl gets 3 JJC points for doing an end around, and for an image that contains SIX young chiquitas (lucky I left the number out of that one)...

Re: Lyrically Speaking - 1/29/21
I think you gave me too many points.
I count 27 for the songs (one point for knowing Steve Miller but not the song)
How much is the Krox bonus?

Oddly enough, when you made me recount, I realized I gave you too FEW points!
I count 14 correct answers (28 points) + Steve Miller (1 point) + Krox (2 points) + Image (5 points) = 36, rather than the 34 I gave you!
