Lyrically Speaking - 1/25/21
In my neverending quest to come up with some kind of theme I haven't used before in an LSWE game, I somehow stumbled upon the... ahem, "sport" of boxing. Why not? I managed to fill out a game without repeating any elements, so let's duke it out and see who becomes medicoreweight champion of the Bored! References can be found in title or artist...
1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...
1. When I left my home and my family
I was no more than a boy
In the company of strangers
2. This stone is genuine like love should be
And if your baby's truer than my baby was to me
3. It's hard to explain how a few precious things
Seem to follow throughout all our lives
After all's said and done I was watching my son
Sleeping there with my bear by his side
4. Before I put another notch
In my lipstick case
You better make sure
You put me in my place
5. Beware, beware of the handshake
That hides the snake
I'm telling you beware
6. Come out of your shell, boy
You know we go like hand in glove
You're afraid of giving in
But I am never giving up on your love
7. I love you so, I always will
And in your voice
I hear a choir of carousels
8. It doesn't matter what I say
So long as I sing with inflection
That makes you feel that I'll convey
Some inner truth of vast reflection
9. It coulda been me
But it was you who
Went and bit off a little bit more
Than he could chew
10. And when trouble a-keeps knockin'
Down your door
Just call on me babe
And it won't be 'round no more
11. Tightened our belts
Abused ourselves
Get in our way
We'll put you on your shelf
12. But we got it on together
In such a super way
We held each other close at night
And traded dreams each day
Kroxquo Bonus: Give me another song with artist that contains a boxing reference in the title or artist name.
Image Bonus: Let's get ready to rumble....

The Boxer - S & G
2. This stone is genuine like love should be

This Diamond Ring - Gary Lewis & the Playboys. I was listening to an interview on Fresh Air one time with Al Kooper who wrote this song and he said he HATES HATES HATES what Gary Lewis did to it. Personally, I don't think it's that bad.

Why not? I managed to fill out a game without repeating any elements, so let's duke it out and see who becomes medicoreweight champion of the Bored! References can be found in title or artist...
1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...
1. When I left my home and my family
I was no more than a boy
In the company of strangers
The Boxer - Simon & Garfunkel
2. This stone is genuine like love should be

123 - Gloria Estefan
7. I love you so, I always will
And in your voice
I hear a choir of carousels
Wedding Bell Blues - 5th Dimension
8. It doesn't matter what I say
So long as I sing with inflection
That makes you feel that I'll convey
Some inner truth of vast reflection
9. It coulda been me
But it was you who
Went and bit off a little bit more
Than he could chew
Bad Blood - Neil Sedaka
My favourite Sedaka tune and the first time I ever saw a chicken neck
10. And when trouble a-keeps knockin'
Down your door
Just call on me babe
And it won't be 'round no more
11. Tightened our belts
Abused ourselves
Get in our way
We'll put you on your shelf
Round and Round - Ratt
Another song on the vaunted Road Trip Tapes of the 80s and 90s. Also my second favourite insurance commercial (because not even Ratt can beat the clogging problem...
12. But we got it on together
In such a super way
We held each other close at night
And traded dreams each day
Kroxquo Bonus: Give me another song with artist that contains a boxing reference in the title or artist name.
The First Cut is the Deepest - Rod Stewart
Yeah, yeah, Cat Stevens...but Rod's "I gargle with razor blades first thing each morning" version rules all. And don't even start on that Sheryl Crow nonsense.... Meanwhile I can think of so many kroxes for this game that I can't help but wonder why you didn't use those instead of all those damned songs I don't know!

That was a clip from The Outsiders. When Matt Dillon says...let's do it for Johnny, he's referring to the rumble with the socs. Johnny was the Ralph Macchio character. You've really never seen/read The Outsiders?

That's because you and mrkelley got identical scores, which made me skip over yours while transcribing my scoresheet...
Fixed! Now stop copying off of other players' papers!

i don't follow any sort of fighting/boxing, but this one cracked me up a little because it's the Simba after the stampede.
Thought about using Bernie, but that one was old within minutes of the first use.
