Lyrically Speaking - 1/25/21

#1 Post by littlebeast13 » Mon Jan 25, 2021 8:10 am

In my neverending quest to come up with some kind of theme I haven't used before in an LSWE game, I somehow stumbled upon the... ahem, "sport" of boxing. Why not? I managed to fill out a game without repeating any elements, so let's duke it out and see who becomes medicoreweight champion of the Bored! References can be found in title or artist...

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...

1. When I left my home and my family
I was no more than a boy
In the company of strangers

2. This stone is genuine like love should be
And if your baby's truer than my baby was to me

3. It's hard to explain how a few precious things
Seem to follow throughout all our lives
After all's said and done I was watching my son
Sleeping there with my bear by his side

4. Before I put another notch
In my lipstick case
You better make sure
You put me in my place

5. Beware, beware of the handshake
That hides the snake
I'm telling you beware

6. Come out of your shell, boy
You know we go like hand in glove
You're afraid of giving in
But I am never giving up on your love

7. I love you so, I always will
And in your voice
I hear a choir of carousels

8. It doesn't matter what I say
So long as I sing with inflection
That makes you feel that I'll convey
Some inner truth of vast reflection

9. It coulda been me
But it was you who
Went and bit off a little bit more
Than he could chew

10. And when trouble a-keeps knockin'
Down your door
Just call on me babe
And it won't be 'round no more

11. Tightened our belts
Abused ourselves
Get in our way
We'll put you on your shelf

12. But we got it on together
In such a super way
We held each other close at night
And traded dreams each day

1-2-3 - Gloria Estefan and the Miami Sound Machine

7. I love you so, I always will
And in your voice
I hear a choir of carousels
Wedding Bell Blues - Fifth Dimension

8. It doesn't matter what I say
So long as I sing with inflection
That makes you feel that I'll convey
Some inner truth of vast reflection
Hook - Blues Traveler (Nobody got this!?!? My favorite Blues Traveler song!!!)

9. It coulda been me
But it was you who
Went and bit off a little bit more
Than he could chew
Bad Blood - Neil Sedaka

10. And when trouble a-keeps knockin'
Down your door
Just call on me babe
And it won't be 'round no more
Sweetheart - Franke and the Knockouts (I was less surprised nobody got this song...)

11. Tightened our belts
Abused ourselves
Get in our way
We'll put you on your shelf
Round and Round - Ratt (If Earl can get nonexistent prescient points, then so can I! They played this out of nowhere on Mecca Radio Sunday night, after I'd already made up the game...)

12. But we got it on together
In such a super way
We held each other close at night
And traded dreams each day
Rocky - Austin Roberts (I coulda used one of the Rocky Mountain songs.... but where's the fun in not making my players hurl?)

Image Bonus: Let's get ready to rumble....

Earl must not have been trying hard, because I'm giving her the IBB for that meme, which (take out a little of that white) reminds me so much of Ody as a kitten! Only he constantly got his ass handed to him by Spilly Boy when they'd get to fighting...

That was a clip from The Outsiders. When Matt Dillon says...let's do it for Johnny, he's referring to the rumble with the socs. Johnny was the Ralph Macchio character. You've really never seen/read The Outsiders?

That's because you and mrkelley got identical scores, which made me skip over yours while transcribing my scoresheet...

Fixed! Now stop copying off of other players' papers! :P

One of the many memes to come out of the Colin McGregor TKO the other night.
i don't follow any sort of fighting/boxing, but this one cracked me up a little because it's the Simba after the stampede.

Thought about using Bernie, but that one was old within minutes of the first use.

That makes it even better then and worth an extra JJC point! And yes, my uncultured ass has never seen The Lion King either...

I may have missed it, but just out of curiosity, LB, which song was yours?
