Lyrically Speaking - 1/22/21

#1 Post by littlebeast13 » Thu Jan 21, 2021 9:49 pm

It's time to hit the road with the LSWE! This week's theme for the Friday game...

ROAD TRIP!!! Who cares if it's the middle of January and they said you should stay home? Pack a bag, grab some snacks, fill up the tank, and get out that epic mix tape or CD and jam it in the stereo! What's the first song that'd be playing as you get out on the highway?

11 of you sent me your pick for the road trip prompt. And of course, I added my own to get this game to my 12 song quorum. Buckle up, it's going to be a bumpy ride (As Sprots and Beebs can attest to)...

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist, 5 points for identifying the song I picked for this game...

1. I like smoke and lightning
Heavy metal thunder
Racin’ with the wind
And the feelin that I’m under

2. And it's hard to say
Just how some things never change
And it's hard to find
Any strength to draw the line

3. When I'm holding your wheel
All I hear is your gear
With my hand on your grease gun
Mmm, it's like a disease, son

4. On our way back home
We're on our way home
We're on our way home
We're going home

5. I was caught in the
Middle of a railroad track
I looked round and I knew
There was no turning back

6. When I go out, yeah
I know I`m gonna be
I`m gonna be the man
Who goes along with you

7. Staring blindly into space
Getting up to splash my face

8. My girl's name is Senora
I tell you friends, I adore her
And when she dances, oh, brother
She's a hurricane in all kinds of weather

9. In a coffee house Sebastian sat
And after every number they'd pass the hat

10. Day in, day out, all week long
Things go better with rock
The only time I turn it down
Is when I'm sleeping it off

11. It hurts to see the man that I've become
And to know I'll never see the morning sunshine on the land

12. Last car to pass, here I go
And the line of cars drove down real slow

Which song did I pick for this game?

Kroxquo Bonus: So, where are we headed to? Give me a song with artist that answers that question...

Hate to break it to you, but if you see this guy out the window, it's already too late not to give him a ride. Next thing you know, he'll be in your rear view mirror.

For some reason, this question made me think of this scene in the movie The Doors. Young Jimmy looks out the window where somebody's been killed, and his mom tried to downplay it, saying it was all a dream. Just wanted y'all to know, it usta be (isn't any more) that this is how the road out to the Four Corners looked.

Neutron Dance - Pointer Sisters

I was in the car singing I'm So Excited last week, but I don't suppose that gives me prescient points, does it? Well, not any more than I normally get....ha!

3. When I'm holding your wheel
All I hear is your gear
With my hand on your grease gun
Mmm, it's like a disease, son

I'm in Love with My Car - Queen

FFF: This was the B side to Bohemian Rhapsody. If I would've done this earlier and had time I would've taken a picture and made it my IB. Although if straight up Andy Gibb nuts callback don't get me an IBB, then I fear it's hopeless. This is also one of the funniest scenes in BoRhap, where they are teasing Roger about this song and he comes unglued, prompting Freddie to remark, "There's only room in this band for one hysterical queen, darling". I do think that line reading cinched the Oscar for Rami Malek right then and there....

4. On our way back home
We're on our way home
We're on our way home
We're going home

Two of Us - Beatles

5. I was caught in the
Middle of a railroad track
I looked round and I knew
There was no turning back

Jumping Jack Flash - Rolling Stones

Didn't you use this already? But unless my singing is way off kilter, it's definitely that. Somebody wasn't paying attention to an earlier game!

6. When I go out, yeah
I know I`m gonna be
I`m gonna be the man
Who goes along with you

I Will Be 100 Miles - Proclaimers

Or something like that. I really do like this song (which was used in a great bit in How I Met Your Mother) but I can never remember the exact title (stupid parentheticals). Do I get extra credit for knowing they were twins and one was named Charlie? And that they were Scottish?

7. Staring blindly into space
Getting up to splash my face

25 or 6 to 4 - Chicago

Couldn't figure out wtf that meant then, still can't...

8. My girl's name is Senora
I tell you friends, I adore her
And when she dances, oh, brother
She's a hurricane in all kinds of weather

Shake Shake Senora - PItbull f/Ludacris, T-Pain...

and a bunch of other people not named Belafonte. Oh, yes he did....jump in da line! Hey, my Dwayne Carter krox the other day was based on The Banana Boat Song! Do I get Belafonte Bros bonus points???

9. In a coffee house Sebastian sat
And after every number they'd pass the hat

Creeque Alley - Mamas and the Papas

10. Day in, day out, all week long
Things go better with rock
The only time I turn it down
Is when I'm sleeping it off

Turn on the Radio - Autograph

So far, the only song that was actually on one of our road trip tapes. Although it was Due, not Primo. Shame on me for not going with my first instincts!

11. It hurts to see the man that I've become
And to know I'll never see the morning sunshine on the land

Indiana Wants Me - R Dean Taylor

12. Last car to pass, here I go
And the line of cars drove down real slow

Radar Love - Golden Earring

Finally! A brother in road trip arms! I think we also had Lunatic Fringe....

Which song did I pick for this game?

Huh. I usually go with 9, but you would definitely not pick Creeque Alley for a road trip song. You've gone 4 so far, but a gentle Beatles tune? No.... I was just going to pick whichever one I didn't know, but looking back I think I got all of them, so there goes that... There's only a couple here that I would consider true road trip songs, so it's kind of a toss up between Steppenwolf and Golden Earring... I think we also had Steppenwolf, but I've never really cared that much for BttW (surprise), so it might have been Magic Carpet Ride. Therefore, I choose....

Radar Love!

Kroxquo Bonus: So, where are we headed to? Give me a song with artist that answers that question...

Viva Las Vegas - ZZ Top

Dammit, I was going to use what our opening song actually way (NAUGHTY NAUGHTY) and then you messed me up with the krox parameters. Damn, even though I'm in a hurry, good thing I managed to actually read the prompt. And, yes, I prefer the ZZ Top version....

Image Bonus: Look kids! What can we see out the window?

Judging from the weather today.... Sorry, kids, we ain't going nowhere!

1. I like smoke and lightning
Heavy metal thunder
Racin’ with the wind
And the feelin that I’m under
Born To Be Wild - Steppenwolf

2. And it's hard to say
Just how some things never change
And it's hard to find
Any strength to draw the line
Neutron Dance - Pointer Sisters (Easily my favorite PS song from what is easily my favorite 80's movie soundtrack...)

3. When I'm holding your wheel
All I hear is your gear
With my hand on your grease gun
Mmm, it's like a disease, son
I'm In Love With My Car - Queen (Remember before I came up with the Image Bonus that there used to be a plain old 5 point bonus question at the end of each game? In a 2012 game I used Bohemian Rhapsody in, I asked which song in the game "I'm In Love With My Car" was the B-side to, and got a lot of dumbfounded answers as to how I could think that was difficult. I still think it's a silly sounding song to be the B-side for a legendary hit....)

4. On our way back home
We're on our way home
We're on our way home
We're going home
Two Of Us - Beatles

5. I was caught in the
Middle of a railroad track
I looked round and I knew
There was no turning back
Thunderstruck - AC/DC

6. When I go out, yeah
I know I`m gonna be
I`m gonna be the man
Who goes along with you
I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles, or somesuch parenthetical mess) - Proclaimers

7. Staring blindly into space
Getting up to splash my face
25 or 6 to 4 - Chicago

8. My girl's name is Senora
I tell you friends, I adore her
And when she dances, oh, brother
She's a hurricane in all kinds of weather
Jump In The Line - Harry Belafonte (Apparently, our idiot Mecca Radio DJ's think this is a Halloween song since it was in Beetlejuice. These are the same Gen Y morons who think Born in the USA is a patriotic song for the Fourth of July, or that Takin' Care Of Business is about working hard...)

9. In a coffee house Sebastian sat
And after every number they'd pass the hat
Creeque Alley - Mamas and the Papas

10. Day in, day out, all week long
Things go better with rock
The only time I turn it down
Is when I'm sleeping it off
Turn Up The Radio - Autograph (One of a handful of albums my Mom won off of the radio in the mid 80's... Sign In Please collected dust for years on the same shelf as Phil's No Jacket Required, The Eurythmics' "Touch," Dan Fogelberg's "Language of Love," and VH's 5150...)

11. It hurts to see the man that I've become
And to know I'll never see the morning sunshine on the land
Indiana Wants Me - R. Dean Taylor

12. Last car to pass, here I go
And the line of cars drove down real slow
Radar Love - Golden Earring

Which song did I pick for this game?

#5 - Thunderstruck!

Yeah, I moved a notch down the list this time, but nobody noticed. Or they were too busy singing these lyrics with Mick Jagger's lips...

Image Bonus: Look kids! What can we see out the window?

I went in thinking that any lone image of Big Ben and Parliament would be a guaranteed IBB.... but of course, that came from Weasel who just won the previous game! That's OK, melly's chain of fools mooning the Amtrak train is a bonafide winner itself, and so she gets the 5 points!

Two Of Us is mine.

I shall explain why....

Back when I was still able to do lengthy road trips, we did trips to Disney World every other year. I had a number of specially crafted mix cd's, because this is ME we're talking about. As we always drove down, we would start early in the morning, discs with Highway Star by Deep Purple, The Doobies' Neal's Fandango and adrenaline rushes like Little Feat's Let It Roll came at later stages of the trip. Yes, I know the lyrics of Two of Us say "On our way back home" but arriving at Disney always felt like coming home in a way, and more than that, Two of Us just brings up feelings for me of the excitement of heading off on a new adventure with the people closest to you. So that is why Two of Us was always the first song on the first mix cd we'd pop in starting off on the road at 7AM or so.

FYI, Song #2 on that first disc was Blue Sky by The Allman Brothers Band. I'd have to look up the rest but I definitely remember those two.

Hey! I'm not the one posting quotations from Harry Potter movies . . .
