Lyrically Speaking - 1/15/21

#1 Post by littlebeast13 » Thu Jan 14, 2021 9:22 pm

Here's the second game that you all helped put together! 12 of you were kind enough to send me a song that fit the theme for this week, which was...

Send me a song that was most famously recorded as a duet!

Duet meaning two singers not normally associated with each other coming together to sing a song. This one took a little work in the background due to numerous duplicate and not-quite fitting suggestions.... but in the end, everyone who sent me a song got a contribution in the game. These songs are all primarily associated with a duet with one exception, and that exception has some elements that are unique to the duet version that you will not mistake for someone else's recording (Think "nice and easy" from "Proud Mary"). And of course, I added my own song which I picked from the very beginning and nobody stole out from under me. YAY!!!!

1 point for the title, 1 point for the duet artists...

1. I got chills, they're multiplying
And I'm losing control
Cause the power you're supplying
It's electrifying

2. Still I carry this feeling
When you walked into my house
That you won`t be
Walking out the door

3. Tender love is blind
It requires a dedication
All this love we feel
Needs no conversation

4. Yes, it's a chance that we're taking
And somebody's heart may be breaking
Ooh, but we can't stop what's inside us
Our love for each other will guide us

5. I always dreamed
I'd find the perfect lover
But he turned out to be
Like every other man
I loved, I loved

6. When it's good for you, babe
And you're feeling alright
Well, you just roll over
And turn out the light

7. All the Federales say, they could've had him any day
They only let him slip away, out of kindness I suppose

8. Look at this face
I know the years are showing
Look at this life
I still don't know where it's going

9. Wherever you go
Whatever you do
You know these reckless thoughts
Of mine are following you

10. So don't misunderstand me
You put the light in my life
Oh, you put the spark to the flame
I've got your heart in my sights

11. No, you'll never change her
So leave it, leave it
Get out quick cause
Seeing is believing

12. Oh, I'm pleased to meet you. You're the one that sings, right?
Well, right or wrong, I sing either way
Oh well, I sing too
Oh good! What kind of singing?
Mostly the contemporary stuff. Do you, uh, do you like modern music?
Oh, I think it's marvelous!

13. I know I stand in line, until you think you'll have the time to spend an evening with me
And if we go someplace to dance, I know that there's a chance you won't be leaving with me

Which song did I contribute to the game? (5 points)

Leather and Lace, Stevie Nicks. I can hear the guy, "you in the moonlight," but I'll be darned if I can remember who it is. Oh well.

3. Tender love is blind

All this love we feel
Needs no conversation

Islands in the Stream, Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers.

Don't go breaking my heart, Elton John. There is no chance I can get the other artist.

11. No, you'll never change her
So leave it, leave it
Get out quick cause
Seeing is believing

Easy Lover. I could probably get the first artist given three or four days and constant attention to RadioDude, but there's no hope for the second.

12. Oh, I'm pleased to meet you. You're the one that sings, right?
Well, right or wrong, I sing either way
Oh well, I sing too

This gets pretty good airplay here every year. Little Drummer Boy, Bing Crosby and David Bowie.

Which song did I contribute to the game? (5 points)

At first I was going to say Bing and Bowie but then I thought, how many folks would think of Friends and Lovers? I remember it only because I had to play the thing at least once a day when it was a dominant factor on the adult contemporary station I was working at back then. And I know you've used the song at least a couple of times in past LS contests. I doubt anyone plays this anymore and I would guess that it's not a song that has stuck in the memories of most people, so my answer is #4, Loring and Anderson.

Does it really take two?
1. I got chills, they're multiplying
And I'm losing control
Cause the power you're supplying
It's electrifying

You're the One that I Want, John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John

2. Still I carry this feeling
When you walked into my house
That you won`t be
Walking out the door

3. Tender love is blind
It requires a dedication
All this love we feel
Needs no conversation

4. Yes, it's a chance that we're taking
And somebody's heart may be breaking
Ooh, but we can't stop what's inside us
Our love for each other will guide us

5. I always dreamed
I'd find the perfect lover
But he turned out to be
Like every other man
I loved, I loved

6. When it's good for you, babe
And you're feeling alright
Well, you just roll over
And turn out the light

7. All the Federales say, they could've had him any day
They only let him slip away, out of kindness I suppose

8. Look at this face
I know the years are showing
Look at this life
I still don't know where it's going

9. Wherever you go
Whatever you do
You know these reckless thoughts
Of mine are following you

10. So don't misunderstand me
You put the light in my life
Oh, you put the spark to the flame
I've got your heart in my sights

11. No, you'll never change her
So leave it, leave it
Get out quick cause
Seeing is believing

12. Oh, I'm pleased to meet you. You're the one that sings, right?
Well, right or wrong, I sing either way
Oh well, I sing too
Oh good! What kind of singing?
Mostly the contemporary stuff. Do you, uh, do you like modern music?
Oh, I think it's marvelous!

13. I know I stand in line, until you think you'll have the time to spend an evening with me
And if we go someplace to dance, I know that there's a chance you won't be leaving with me

You're the One That I Want - John Travolta & Olivia Newton-John

2. Still I carry this feeling
When you walked into my house
That you won`t be
Walking out the door

Leather and Lace - Stevie Nicks & Don Henley

Pegged this one, and I figure that Stop Draggin' My Heart Around is somewhere in here as well...

3. Tender love is blind
It requires a dedication
All this love we feel
Needs no conversation

Islands in the Stream - Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton

4. Yes, it's a chance that we're taking
And somebody's heart may be breaking
Ooh, but we can't stop what's inside us
Our love for each other will guide us

5. I always dreamed
I'd find the perfect lover
But he turned out to be
Like every other man
I loved, I loved

6. When it's good for you, babe
And you're feeling alright
Well, you just roll over
And turn out the light

You Don't Bring Me Flowers - Barbra Streisand & Neil Diamond

7. All the Federales say, they could've had him any day
They only let him slip away, out of kindness I suppose

Pancho & Lefty - Merle Haggard & Willie Nelson

So far, it looks like I'm the only one who took the note as it should be something that is sung other than a duet...

8. Look at this face
I know the years are showing
Look at this life
I still don't know where it's going

Don't Know Much - Linda Ronstadt & Aaron Neville

Or one of the Nevilles, anyway. The one with the thing on his face that isn't the tattooed one...

9. Wherever you go
Whatever you do
You know these reckless thoughts
Of mine are following you

Stumblin' In - Suzi Quatro and Chris Norman

Suzi! Glycerine Queen was running through my head just the other day. So funny that in her native country she's known for a soft rock song...

10. So don't misunderstand me
You put the light in my life
Oh, you put the spark to the flame
I've got your heart in my sights

Don't Go Breaking My Heart - Elton John & Kiki Dee

11. No, you'll never change her
So leave it, leave it
Get out quick cause
Seeing is believing

Easy Lover - Phil & Phil

Little Drummer Boy - Bing Crosby & David Bowie

Hey, somebody else got the note! This has got to be either Frank or Hottie...

13. I know I stand in line, until you think you'll have the time to spend an evening with me
And if we go someplace to dance, I know that there's a chance you won't be leaving with me

Something Stupid - Frank & Nancy Sinatra

Okay, this one has to be Melly

Which song did I contribute to the game? (5 points)

I'm going to say Stumblin' In because I hope all that Suzi Quatro talk I've done over the years sunk in at least partially....

Kroxquo Bonus: Now give me a song with artist from a DUO (two person band or collaborative pair) that you really like.

Well, I was wrong about Draggin' and I should krox it, but I'm afraid it will get punted since Stevie was already used...

One Toke Over the Line - Brewer & Shipley

Image Bonus: Show me two things that really go great together...

1. I got chills, they're multiplying
And I'm losing control
Cause the power you're supplying
It's electrifying
You're The One That I Want - John Travolta & Olivia Newton-John (I first heard this song at the ballpark in Kansas City in 1999. It was years later before I knew who was singing and that it was from "Grease"...)

2. Still I carry this feeling
When you walked into my house
That you won`t be
Walking out the door
Leather and Lace - Stevie Nicks and Don Henley (So nice, it was requested thrice. And the only song that more than one player sent me....)

3. Tender love is blind
It requires a dedication
All this love we feel
Needs no conversation
Islands In The Stream - Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton (I knew "Ghetto Superstar" before I ever heard of this song....)

4. Yes, it's a chance that we're taking
And somebody's heart may be breaking
Ooh, but we can't stop what's inside us
Our love for each other will guide us
Friends and Lovers - Gloria Loring and Carl Anderson (Without Gloria Loring, we don't get "Blurred Lines." And that'd be a shame....)

5. I always dreamed
I'd find the perfect lover
But he turned out to be
Like every other man
I loved, I loved
No More Tears (Enough Is Enough) - Barbra Steisand and Diana Ross (The title makes me sad that nobody requested "Close My Eyes Forever," which would have been my fallback pick...)

6. When it's good for you, babe
And you're feeling alright
Well, you just roll over
And turn out the light
You Don't Bring Me Flowers - Barbra Streisand and Neil Diamond (I read in one of the Uncle John's Bathroom Readers I ever got a hold of that both singers recorded this as a solo around the same time... and a clever DJ spliced them together into a duet to play on the radio. It was so well received that it convinced their record company to actually record it as a duet. I haven't verified that with Dr. Wiki, though....)

7. All the Federales say, they could've had him any day
They only let him slip away, out of kindness I suppose
Pancho and Lefty - Merle Haggard and Willie Nelson

8. Look at this face
I know the years are showing
Look at this life
I still don't know where it's going
Don't Know Much - Linda Ronstadt and Aaron Neville

9. Wherever you go

Stumblin' In - Suzy Quattro and Chris Norman

10. So don't misunderstand me
You put the light in my life
Oh, you put the spark to the flame
I've got your heart in my sights
Don't Go Breaking My Heart - Elton John and Kiki Dee (Not our Kiki, mind you...)

11. No, you'll never change her
So leave it, leave it
Get out quick cause
Seeing is believing
Easy Lover - Phil Collins and Philip Bailey

Peace On Earth/Little Drummer Boy - David Bowie and Bing Crosby (This would be the song I alluded to in the intro, where the duet could be uniquely identified. I'd originally hesitated on accepting this one...)

13. I know I stand in line, until you think you'll have the time to spend an evening with me
And if we go someplace to dance, I know that there's a chance you won't be leaving with me
Something Stupid - Frank Sinatra and Nancy Sinatra

Which song did I contribute to the game? (5 points) - #4 - Friends and Lovers

Yes, I intentionally put this in the same spot as the first game just to be funny. Had I not heard this as a Sirius 80's lost hit a few years ago, I would have likely forgotten this song's existence.... which is a shame, because it's perfectly 80's sappy!

Kroxquo Bonus: Now give me a song with artist from a DUO (two person band or collaborative pair) that you really like.

The kid gloves came off for accepting Kroxes in this one. Anyone who gave me just another duet got docked a Krox point. Your Krox had to be from a two person group, or a collaborative duo that operated like a band, like Simon & Garfunkel.

Image Bonus: Show me two things that really go great together...

I have a soft spot for the whole Philly fans booing Santa Claus legend, so while I really wanted to give this IBB to Krox... Sprots' coyote and road runner took the five-spot. I always hated that cocky ass Road Runner. And I must spend too much time on seedy parts of the internet, because Vandal's footgina didn't really shock me all that much...
