Aaron Rodgers on Jeopardy

#51 Post by Vandal » Wed Apr 14, 2021 8:41 am

With Aaron Rodgers hosting, category Title Waves:

“In the 1960s these Midwesterners earned 5 NFL championship trophies.”

The response from the three contestants ... crickets.

“Green Bay Packers?” Rodgers said, making the appropriate face and stretching out his arms in disbelief.

I still like Aaron's response to Scott's Final J question....

Buzzy Cohen, a nine-time Jeopardy champion from 2016 who also won the 2017 Tournament of Champions, will host this year's TOC, to be shown May 17-28. Buzzy was probably the most divisive Jeopardy contestant before James Holzhauer with his distinct sense of humor.

Cooper is probably the most Trebeck-like one announced to host. He did a great job on The Mole.

They're making it difficult to want to watch. Cooper? Stephanopoulos? Buck? Might as well have Michelle Obama and AOC host as well. I know Buck is probably more apolitical, but who really can stand him, on either side of the aisle?

On the final episode of The Conners, which is scheduled to air on May 12, Jackie (Laurie Metcalf) appears as a contestant on an episode of Jeopardy hosted by Aaron Rodgers and starts flirting with Rodgers during contestant interviews.

Alex Trebek was nominated posthumously today for a daytime Emmy for host of Jeopardy (he won the last two daytime Emmys and seven altogether in this category). Larry King was also nominated posthumously for a daytime Emmy as informative talk show host for his show Larry King Live.

Turns out, by the way, that wasn't even the season finale. And after you wrote this post, The Conners was renewed for Season 4. --Bob

I love Mayim Bialik -- I love it that a neuroscientist played a neuroscientist on one of television's most popular shows, and I think she did a nice job on Jeopardy! tonight. But that outfit! Aargh! It looked like she was trying to imitate the blockiest building in town painted in the least appealing colors.

I hope for something different tomorrow night. Even one of her Amy Farrah Fowler outfits would be better.

I thought Bialik's first episode was very smooth and strong. I loved that she connected the first two players' stories, during the interview segment.

I agree with Skoop, and as of today, she is my pick to replace Trebek.

I agree she's done a great job, but I don't see her or any of the other celebrities getting the permanent hosting role. It's a very time-consuming job, and they're looking for someone willing to make a long-term commitment. The only similar situation I can remember is when Drew Carey took over for Bob Barker on The Price Is Right. His acting career pretty much came to an end at that point. Bialik has a sitcom on Fox that's been renewed for another season.

I think the host will be either Ken Jennings or Buzzy Cohen. LeVar Burton is a possibility, since his acting career is somewhat minimal now and he's got some great credentials, but I think they'd be looking for someone younger. Burton is 64.

I heard Mayim on a Bill Nye podcast and she pretty much said she wouldn't do it full time because it would be too time consuming. She's a great listen on any podcast if you ever get a chance.

Why does J! need one host? Cut the field down and let them keep rotating.

I fixed it for them.

10. Mike Richards -- I think somebody said he was only a fill-in and would not take it on a regular basis.
9. Dr. Mehmet Oz
8. Buzzy Cohen
7. Bill Whitaker
6. Anderson Cooper
5. Aaron Rodgers
4. Savannah Guthrie
3. Katie Couric
2. Ken Jennings
1. Mayim Bialik -- Yeah, yeah, I know she's tied up with being a big TV star. She's still my first pick.

At this point my rankings would be:
9 - Dr. Oz
8 - Mike Richards
7 - Bill Whittaker
6 - Katie Couric
5 - Anderson Cooper
4 - Aaron Rodgers
3 - Ken Jennings
2 - Buzzy Cohen
1 - Mayim Bialik

After only one outing I can't rate Savannah Guthrie. From this list I think only two are likely candidates - Ken and Buzzy. The others are either too old (TPTB don't want to have to go through this again in only a few years) or have other commitments. I know some are holding out for LeVar Burton - but I can't comment until I see his performances.
