RIP Rafer Johnson

Olympic decathlon gold medalist in 1960 (and silver medalist in 1956), and one of the folks that subdued Sirhan Sirhan after the assassination of Robert Kennedy. Age 86.

Johnson lit the torch at the opening ceremonies of the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

I had the great privilege of attending the Opening Ceremony for the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, where Rafer lit the flame. It was a pretty closely guarded secret.
