Gary Cooper must be the actor who is used five times. He was in The Story of Dr. Wassell, making that a triple, and Along Came Jones, which matches with 32. Jennifer Aniston in Along Came Polly.

Cooper has some other title characters that would lend themselves to this game.

This is coming along nicely! A couple of technicalities:

70. LESLEY HOWARD in Romeo and Juliet; 56. PETER USTINOV in Romanoff and Juliet

Peter Ustinov didn't play Romanoff.

3. MERYL STREEP in Sophie's Choice; 15. CHARLES LAUGHTON in Hobson's Choice

Charles Laughton was one of the Hobsons, but he wasn't the one who had the choice. Although it's arguable, I went with the one who did.

Blatant cheating here. It was John Gavin who played Romanoff. Brenda de Banzie was Laughton's daughter, and the whistling quote comes from The Man Who Knew Too Much.

Trying to think what films Tom Hanks played a title character that wasn't the actual title (i.e. Forrest Gump or Sully). There's Joe vs the Volcano and Captain Phillips and then I'm drawing a blank.

Just a hunch, but I doubt there are any other "vs. the volcano" movies out there. On the other hand, if Frank considers Captain as a legitimate title part (and he was somewhat vague about that), then Captain Phillips would match up with Errol Flynn in Captain Blood.

The only other ______ 's War movie I can think of is Murphy's War with Peter O'Toole. I don't know if one of the quotes might be his.

And you can add another Great movie, John Malkovich was The Great Buck Howard.
How about Colin Farrell in Hart's War?
