Vote With Your Heart

As always, my daughter Janneke has expressed it so much more eloquently than I ever could:

"When you go to vote tomorrow - and if you can, you should - please remember:
- 231 000 people have died of COVID (and while COVID itself is a natural disaster, this administration's inability to deal with it is not)
- Children are still in cages in Texas, and we lost track of some of their parents. They may never be reunited.
- The US is violating international law by not allowing refugees into the country. We are a pariah state for doing so.
- We are currently on Hurricane Eta, which is not Trump's fault, but is a sign of what exactly climate change and its immediate effects, something this administration is unwilling to confront. Without immediate action, we will continue to see increasing climate instability.
- White supremacy is on the rise.
- The federal government has stripped federal protections from LGBT people.
- We are on the verge of losing guarantees of healthcare for those with pre-existing conditions.
- This president was impeached for trying to sell American military support in exchange for illegal campaign support.
These things are done in your name. They will continue to be done, and they will intensify.
Vote your heart. Vote what you think is right. But your vote is an agreement with who you vote for, and atrocities are done by the US, and they are done in your name.
Vote your heart."

I remember from a book I had as a kid, ca. 1966, that pointed out that we had never had a Hurricane Wilma because we never had that many in a season to get to the W's. My, how times change.

This is great.

These photos are from Rep. Henry Cuellar, D-Texas.
Your "heart" has failed you, and these kids. Your "heart" encouraged this.

Like many Republicans, BiT apparently discovered his heart for these kids on January 20, 2021.

SSS, your support for what is happening (and lack of support for Trump's policies regarding the border) shows either you complete ignorance for the ways of the world or a complete disregard for people you hope may someday pay into the system for you to collect your Social Security.

I suspect it is a mix of both, but weighted towards the latter.

That is, if not the worst piece of advice I've ever heard, certainly top five.

Just curious if your daughter is up to speed on the environmental costs of wind and solar? For example, has she weighed the massive mining operations worldwide required to scale wind and solar.

Has she read (for example) "Apocalypse Never" by Michael Shellenberger? He has impeccable environmental credentials.

Trump left the immigration situation in a shambles much the same as he left everything else. During his administration, the backlog of those seeking asylum skyrocketed and funding to process them was drastically reduced. The situation was a mess but we didn't hear BiT or Spock or any of the Republicans in Congress complaining about it. Instead, it all got dumped in Biden's lap, and he hasn't been able to fix it in the two months that he's been in office, much of which time he's spent most of his efforts trying to get a handle on the pandemic.

The only reason that Republicans are voicing mock concern now is because they sense a political opening against Biden.

Hard to believe it possible, but you're right. He's dismissing GOP concerns, Democrat concerns, and media concerns, all for his little Social Security check. Had he been around 150 years ago he'd be a slave master on a plantation.

Even his little Social Security check proves how delusional he is. Remember he credited Biden-when the same thing would have happened if Trump had won Term 2.

There are problems at the border; I'm not denying that. Conditions are oppressive in many cases. Biden hasn't been able to solve these problems yet. But most of these problems were created by Trump neglect to begin with. He dismantled and defunded much of the processing system and simply let immigrants congregate in harsh conditions. Under Biden, the immigrants continue to arrive (despite Biden's pleas that they don't come right now), although there hasn't been enough time to get the processing system funded and back running properly.

And as for GOP "concerns," please point me to any GOP politician during the Trump administration that expressed any humanitarian concerns about the way the migrants were being treated. All we got was a steady diet of claims that the immigrants were rapists, gang members, drug dealers, and Islamic terrorists. And in the last year, that they were bringing in the coronavirus.

I can't say that Spock has lost his sense of humor because I've yet to see him display any.

This paragraph from the review describes Spock perfectly:
The most serious flaw, however, is that [Shellenberger/Spock] assumes a position and seeks data and facts to fit that position rather than, as science demands, using data and facts to develop, test, and refine a theory. As a result, the book suffers from logical fallacies, arguments based on emotion and ideology, the setting up and knocking down of strawman arguments, and the selective cherry-picking and misuse of facts, all interspersed with simple mistakes and misrepresentations of science.
