Littlest Spock (upcoming senior) is planning on going for a 2-year welding program.

Plans were tentatively set for a relatively local program until Montana seductively wiggled her hips and caught his eye.

He found a technical college (Missoula College) attached to the University of Montana-so it appears that he can get some of the benefits of a 4-year while at the 2-year program.

He is pretty excited as he wants to end up in Montana or Wyoming long-term anyway.

We are planning to look at it next week. Plan to stay around the Little Bighorn area and finish the trip from there. I am not driving that close and not going to the battlefield at least to check out the books in the visitor center.

4-day deal=2 days there-3rd day look at the school and start for home-stay wherever and get home the 4th day.
Take interstate on the way out-then take backroads on the way home.

It is about 1050 miles (600 or whatever in Montana). The boys had a hoot figuring out things like that Washington DC is closer than Missoula and Baltimore is about the same distance.

So, just a day trip here in Montana

Sounds like a good plan - Little Big Horn is a must. When you pass Billings on I-90 wave in a northerly direction - I'll be watching for it. :D

If we drive really, really fast through your relevant court area is there a chance that we might see you in court?

I realize it is Montana-so I am thinking maybe 240 MPH and we might have a chance in the courtroom-LOL.

The kids are not buying my "Dad Knowledge" that I-90 from Billings to Missoula will be a parking lot comparable to the interstates in the Los Angeles area.

I realize it is Montana-so I am thinking maybe 240 MPH and we might have a chance in the courtroom-LOL. For sure.

The kids are not buying my "Dad Knowledge" that I-90 from Billings to Missoula will be a parking lot comparable to the interstates in the Los Angeles area. They will be humbled. It will be slightly crowded around towns along the way, but the construction zones will be way worse than regular traffic.

"Second Hand Lions" is our favorite family movie-Hands Down.

My favorite line (in my favorite scene) in the movie is "Good Luck in Montana, kid."

Yes, I love Hub's speech to the teenagers in the bbq joint-"killed many men etc ect." but "Good luck in Montana, kid." just can't be beat.

Anyway, Littlest Spock really liked the school in Missoula. The deal maker (if you will) is that he lives right in the U of M dorms-so you get to meet a lot of women.

Downside is there is no tuition reciprocity between Montana and Minnesota-but it is only a 2-year school so that helps.

Anyway, he is going to get very sick of hearing me say-"Good luck in Montana, kid." But, hey, what are dads for?

Still subject to change but he is excited about it.

The funniest part of the trip is our family had been teasing him about how liberal Missoula is and that he will come back a "pot smoking, transgender, atheist marxist." This is the kid who wears a Trump hat to school.

Anyway, we were at a restaurant in Hardin (near Little Bighorn) and started visiting with the owners. They told us how Missoula is the most liberal part of Montana and to watch out for that. Me and Littlest Spock broke out laughing.

FTR-these were not insular, eastern Montana cowboys (or whatever)-they had lived all over the country (including California)-We got a kick out of the whole deal.

Excellent! and those cowboys in Hardin weren't wrong... Missoula due to the university influence and Bozeman due to MSU and LOTS of Cali implants. The rest of the state has it's head on right, for the most part.
