Sad sad day

He had a ton of stage presence, and was genuinely rooting for Millionaire contestants.

You helped change my life, Regis. God bless!

So long, Reege. Thank you for all the hours of entertainment you shared with millions. Television was forever changed because of you, and it won't be the same without you.

Didn't get to the hot seat, but still enjoyed meeting him, and watching him in action up close and personal.

RIP indeed.

He was a Regis fan from waaaaay back.

One of the things he liked best about WWTBAM - in addition to seeing if people I knew were on - was the sheer fact it was Regis. He liked Meredith as well but she was no Regis.

I treasure those few minutes I got to spend with him in 2009. I was honored to tell him, " 'I love you...' Regis". (and his responses were classic)

He injured his hip at the end of taping that Friday. At Monday's taping, he was in obvious pain when the camera was off, but you would never know he was hurting when the camera came on.

I loved Regis too but he never rested his head on my shoulder as Meridith did.

It’s a very sad day. There was no celebrity that I loved as much as him.

It is really comforting to hear the stories, especially from the folks who were contestants way back in the day...

A very sad day. He helped make my and many others' most unforgettable experiences.

I was not quite a contestant during my first WWTBAM experience in November 1999. I was a "back-up" contestant from TOPG, and they still paid my expenses to come to NYC in case one of the 10 ROF contestants couldn't play. The two of us that were back-ups for the taping were kept under the audience bleachers at the start of the show, and I got to observe Regis actually signing the prop checks to be used for the show that evening. That was the closest I ever got to him.

He will be missed. At least we were able to see him a couple months ago on the documentary that did about BAM. He literally stood next to me after a taping of BAM when I was an audience member (during the first week ever) while waiting for his car to come at the exit. It was pouring rain outside, and I remember he made a joke about it to us. He was in good spirits even after a long taping (they didn't know what they were doing yet, I think a 30 minute show took almost 2 hours to tape if I remember correctly). Nothing was phony about him, what you saw was genuinely him.

Only Mad King Donald could make Regis's passing about himself.

You did what none of your successors could do, Reege, taking uncasted contestants and making them a hit.

Despite not making it to the Hot Seat, I always considered myself to be fortunate to have appeared on an episode that had two of the more memorable moments during Regis' run. The first being Ed Toutant's infamous glowing potato question. While anyone who watched the show back then could easily sense how Regis was always on the contestant's side, probably more so than any other game show host, I got to see it in action when Regis threw a mini tirade over how terrible that question was in the aftermath, and, in an arm-waving animated gesture for the entire audience to take in that day, shouted "What are we trying to do now, trick the contestants!?!?" Reege totally won my heart with that outburst, and I doubt anyone other than the late Mr. Toutant was happier to see Ed return and avenge that awful question.

Then of course, there was the contestant who followed Ed into the Hot Seat, our own Amy Turner. I may have secretly despised this while I was rotting away in Seat 9 (and maybe still do!), but I don't think there's a better tribute to Regis on this sad day than the one she gave him nineteen years ago....

I was really sad to hear about his passing. I never got closer than an watching from the audience, but I had always loved his morning show. It is good to know how many lives were changed by the show and to be friends - even through cyberspace,

WWTBAM began with Regis almost 21 years ago; that's hard to fathom.

RIP Regis. If he hadn't been so successful at making the US version of the show eminently watchable, it might not have lasted past the first season. He laid the groundwork, and I'll forever be grateful.
