Heart-breaking
For the sake of her extended family, I am grateful and relieved that her young son didn't jump back in the lake to try to find her.

Uh, yeah, for his sake too.
In most extended families, the son is included within it.

Is there a small chance Ms. Rivera’s family’s grief might have been amplified by the death of her son?

Body of ‘Glee' Star Naya Rivera Found at Lake
The discovery came amid an extensive search for the missing "Glee" star. Rivera went missing July 8 after going on a boat ride in the lake with her 4-year-old son. She disappeared while swimming in the reservoir northwest of Los Angeles, sheriff's officials said. Her son was found asleep on a pontoon boat that had been rented some three hours earlier.

According to the Ventura County Sheriff, her son reported that she helped him back into the boat by pushing him from behind before herself slipping back beneath the water. If that's correct, it sounds like she knew she was entangled and got her son to safety as her last act. --Bob
