My very first memory of game shows was Hugh Downs as host of Concentration.

Downs died today at age 99.

My mother was on Concentration during the 1960s. She was convinced that Hugh Downs "had a thing" for her, and she treasured her lovely parting gift of a matched set of American Tourister luggage until the day she died. I doubt that the luggage ever made many trips, as it was too heavy to carry when packed. As to Mr. Downs' "thing", lets just say gently that she had many delusions on a wide range of subject matter.

He was one of the main reason I wanted to get on a game show (specifically Concentration).

He also was President of the National Space Society back in the 1980s, when I was a card-carrying member.
