Looking back over the past ten years, there actually was one year where her point total also would have won the team title in Nebraska's smallest class, and there were many years where she would have finished second.

In 2006, in the second smallest class, there was a notable individual "team" race. One girl won three events, and then scored points on two relays. Another girl won one event, finished second (to the other girl) in a couple events, finished in the top three in another event, and scored points in a relay. With very little assistance from teammates (outside of the relays), they scored essentially all of their schools' points and finished 1st and tied for second.

There is an interesting aspect to the state track meet that will start on Friday. In the largest class, there is a school that could come close to winning the title mainly on the efforts of two girls (though they will have other people scoring in events as well.) As a sophomore, one girl is among the best HS middle distance runners in the nation (she won the Kansas Relays open division 3000 as an 8th grader, in her second year of running). She will win the 800, 1600, and 3200, and likely will anchor the 3200 relay to victory. Meanwhile, a friend of our family has the opportunity to also win three events [the 300 Intermediate hurdles (state record holder), the 110 High Hurdles, and the 400] and finish high in the 1600 relay. Our friend also could have scored points in the triple jump, as she has one of the state's leading marks despite only trying it at a couple of meets earlier this year.

I saw this movie before, and it had Jan-Michael Vincent and it was called The World's Greatest Athlete.

Only he was in college.

My high school had a guy who set national records in the shot put and discus. Somehow our "team" finished fourth at the state track meet despite finishing fifth in our district and third in our region.

I saw this story over the weekend, and I intended to search for a link to it to send to Skoop. I thought it might be of some use for the "women in sports" book she's working on.

I read that story in today's paper. My high school won our state title (Pennsylvania) exactly the same way while I attended it. Three events, three victories, 30 points. I think it was my sophomore year. It's quite an accomplishment. --Bob

Thanks! I ran a version of it in the Briefs on Sunday but I will note it for the book.
