Timeline 2020 - Chron 5

Turn it up to 11 - a Double Timeline chain

The 20 events in this chain, when paired and sequenced correctly, occurred eleven years apart. There are two events per year.

Points awarded as follows:
One point for correctly identifying each year in the chain (10 total)
One point for each event matched to the correct year (20 total)

Note: The two events within each year can be placed in any order

Hint: Look for an obvious answer and build the chain around it (+/- 11 years). Once you have the chain in place it's much easier to match up the events. For instance, if you know one of the years is 1960 (it's not, BTW), then the chain could be built forward (1971, 1982...) and backwards (1949, 1938...). The start and end dates of the chain can be determined by the events.

Your answers should look like:

Year first
Event 1
Event 2

Year second
Event 1
Event 2
.
.
.
Year last
Event 1
Event 2

---------------------------------------------------------

Events:

Boris Yeltsin wins 55 percent of the Russian popular vote and becomes the first democratically elected head of state in Russia's 1,000-year history.

California Democrat Nancy Pelosi becomes the first woman speaker of the House.

Eva Peron of Argentina dies of cancer at age 33.

For the first time in 25 years, no one is elected to Baseball Hall of Fame.

"Killing Me Softly With His Song" by Roberta Flack wins Record of the Year.

Michael E. De Bakey implants artificial heart in human for first time at Houston hospital.

Microsoft introduces Windows.

Mr. Potato Head is released and becomes the first toy to be advertised on television.

Neil Diamond is born.

Norman Mailer dies at age 84, Frank Tangredi mourns.

Patricia Hearst, 19-year-old daughter of publisher Randolph Hearst, is kidnapped by Symbionese Liberation Army.

Pluto is discovered by astronomer Clyde W. Tombaugh at the Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, Arizona

Star #46 was added to US flag with the addition of Oklahoma.

Sylvia Plath publishes The Bell Jar.

"Take me out to the Ball Game" registered for copyright.

The 18th amendment to the Constitution, prohibiting the sale of alcholic beverages anywhere in the U.S., is ratified

The classic film "Citizen Kane" premieres in New York City, Chicago, and Los Angeles.

Mohandas Gandhi's non-violent protest, the Salt March, took place.

"We Are the World” is recorded in Los Angeles.

World Series: Cincinnati Reds defeat Chicago White Sox (5-3) (nothing at all strange about this World Series)

Reminder: Two events per year, each set 11 years apart.

I keep reading this in different ways and am just confusing myself. The statements I have the most difficulty with are:
"The 20 events in this chain, when paired and sequenced correctly, occurred eleven years apart. There are two events per year."
and
"Reminder: Two events per year, each set 11 years apart."

In your example, do you mean:
Year first
Event 1
Event 2

Year second (which equals Year first + 11)
Event 1
Event 2
.
.
.
Year last (which equals Year first + 99)
Event 1
Event 2

I think the forward/backward thing confused me more than it should have. Do you mean pin down one event and build your chain from that at 11-year intervals in both directions?

In the statement, "Reminder: Two events per year, each set 11 years apart," does the "each" refer to the year and not the event?

I likely failed to explain it clearly. The way you described it correct.

Year first
Event 1
Event 2

Year second (which equals Year first + 11)
Event 1
Event 2
.
.
.
Year last (which equals Year first + 99)
Event 1
Event 2

I should have said

"Reminder: Two events per 11-year cycle"

Each year in the chain is 11 years apart and there are 2 events per 11-year cycle. I used forward and backwards because you will likely get a year in the middle of the chain first and work from it.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the response, Vandal. Once I was sure of what you wanted, it seemed to read better. I thought I'd tank it, but this turned out to be a fun game. Thanks for including Microsoft Windows!

Year first
Event 1
Event 2

Year second
Event 1
Event 2
.
.
.
Year last
Event 1
Event 2
