Reporting from Serendipity World: Over the weekend, I found my "grown-up" track spikes in a box in the garage. I was delighted, and I moved them to the closet shelf that also holds my Irish heavy shoes and ghillies, my pointe shoes, tap shoes, and other dance-related footwear that is unlikely ever to touch my toes again. The spikes are the basic Addidas women's model of their era. I wish I still had my junior high spikes, which were pale green and made of soft kangaroo leather. (Remorseful and belated apologies to the kangaroo and its kin.)
