Singer/songwriter who wrote and performed Lean on Me, Ain't No Sunshine and others.
I got to see him and Harry Belafonte perform at a benefit concert for Andrew Young's first successful Congressional run. A great evening of entertainment.
Age 81

Great singer.
Bill Withers song trivia:
In the radio version of the song Ain’t No Sunshine, how many consecutive times does he say the words “I know”?
Yes, I counted.
Twenty six

I read somewhere that that song holds the record for longest sustained note in a pop record. I listened to it the other day and near the end he holds one note for more than 20 seconds.

Big fan of Bill Withers, this is not to disparage him - but if you like long notes, try "My Way" by Chris Mann (season 2 of The Voice) - I think I counted 23 seconds.
Besides the cognitive dissonance of a young person singing that song, it's pretty great.

We actually had that as a trivia question at the last event before everything shut down. We got it right.
