Put the Blame Where it Belongs-China
I know it is fun to have a massive, navel-gazing, narcissistic thread blaming Trump.
But, it is time for a thread on the true villains in this pandemic-China.
From Bloomberg:

>>>"China has concealed the extent of the coronavirus outbreak in its country, under-reporting both total cases and deaths it’s suffered from the disease,"<<<<
The following quote is key to everything that has happened in the West
>>>"Deborah Birx, the State Department immunologist advising the White House on its response to the outbreak, said Tuesday that China’s public reporting influenced assumptions elsewhere in the world about the nature of the virus.<<<<<<
It was hard to make good decisions early, when trying to figure things out with false data from the Chinese.

and just like that-
It is back in China again (like it ever went away). They put a county of 600,000 under lockdown.

Bullshit. We knew plenty and there were plenty of alarm bells going off within the government, which Donny cheerfully ignored. It was Donny's job to get this right.Spock wrote: ↑Wed Apr 01, 2020 11:26 amI know it is fun to have a massive, navel-gazing, narcissistic thread blaming Trump.

This reminds me of the occasional lawyer who will go into court and try to blame a mistake on his secretary. I was in court watching this happen one day, and once that started, the judge absolutely reamed the lawyer. Her point, made quite forcefully, is that it's the lawyer's job to make sure staff gets it right, and he's responsible if they don't.
And that's leaving aside that until the fact that until the middle of 2019, we had at least one doctor embedded within the Chinese governmental health establishment. Donny's Administration pulled her, because it decided we didn't really need accurate information from China.
In November we get to decide who will manage the federal government's response to the second half of this pandemic. And time and time again, Donny has demonstrated that he's absolutely terrible at the job. Which is going to cost hundreds of thousands of Americans, if not millions, their lives.
And yes, this is personal for me, though so far I've been lucky. My son's mother lives in Seattle. She has had asthma for most of her life. My mother is plenty old enough to be high risk, and she lives in Queens, New York. So far, so good, for both of them, but for the next 18 months or so they'll be at enhanced risk of a premature death.
And why is it, by the way, that Florida got its entire order for personal protective equipment and other necessary supplies filled by the federal government, while other states have had to go begging? Forgive me if I suspect that preferential treatment has more than a little to do with presidential politics.
In the past, I've used the metaphor of a political war to describe what's going on in this country. But even I never dreamed that Donny would actually be in position to let politics affect which Americans will live and which ones will die. So when I encounter people who want to continue allowing Donny to manage the pandemic after January, as far as I'm concerned they're telling me that their own brand of politics is more important to them than the lives of my mother and my son's mother. You can probably imagine how I'll respond to that. --Bob

Re: Put the Blame Where it Belongs-China
Wrong, Spock. The reason we have intelligence agencies is to alert us when situations like this arise. Pearl Harbor was the fault of the Japanese, and 9/11 was the fault of Osama bin Laden, but that doesn't mean that our intelligence agencies and those who were supposed to act on that intelligence were not also at fault. And if we don't try to fix the problem, then it repeats itself. We should expect by now that foreign governments will not be honest with us. Otherwise, why do we even have a CIA?
In an earlier post on one of these threads, I cited an article that showed that HAB Grocers, a fairly small Texas-based chain, had intelligence from China that they acted on at the beginning of February. Now if a small Texas grocery chain can take action based on the intelligence it had, there's no reason our government couldn't. Actually, some people in our government were aware. People like Richard Burr and Kelly Loeffler. Unfortunately, they felt that maintaining the health of their bank balances was more important than maintaining the country's health.
That's always the response from Trump. It's someone else's fault--the Chinese, or the Democrats who sidetracked him about impeachment, or the media that is looking to get him or Democratic state governors or FDA regulations or anything else but him.

Anyone who relies on the information coming from a totalitarian government, whether China, Russia, North Korea, or any other such government, is an idiot. Which is why we had people there. Until Donny's Administration removed them.
But the title of your thread is a clear effort, not just to point out China's contributions, but to completely "put the blame" on China to the exclusion of Donny. --Bob

The fact that Spock seems to view this as a badge of honor to call the disease the "Wuhan flu," which is both factually incorrect (it's not the flu, anymore than the smallpox and polio viruses are the flu) and needlessly racially antagnoistic, indicates that his primary interest in studying this disease so "intently" (which apparently doesn't include any interest in learning actual facts about the disease), is to engage in some more foreigner bashing.

Re: Put the Blame Where it Belongs-China
The U.S. foreign aid agency has shipped medical supplies around the world, from early this year (to China) until recently when every bit of equipment is needed here. Politicians of both parties have condemned this policy. It's their job to put the needs of their own districts first, but they should keep in mind that patients overseas are human beings too, and that in epidemics, as in war, confronting the enemy far from home is often more effective than fighting the battle here.

So, Spock. What's your take on the elimination of Linda Quick's job as part of the purposeful drawdown of the US government. Was that a smart move? Might it have helped avoid the very situation you're talking about here?

But that's my very point, Spock. If Dr. Quick's position hadn't been eliminated, it would have been much more difficult for China to cover up what they were doing. The point to assessing blame is to figure out what to do about it. We really can't do much about the Chinese government. But in November we'll be able to do a lot about the federal government that royally screwed up the response. But you're right -- one of the many ways in which Donny's Administration screwed up the response was by leaving the government in a position where it was less able to get reliable information from China. --Bob

Bill Gertz article on the Chinese biological lab just 3 miles from the wet market.
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
>>>"Chinese government researchers isolated more than 2,000 new viruses, including deadly bat coronaviruses, and carried out scientific work on them just three miles from a wild animal market identified as the epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic."<<<<
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
I have long personally believed that the virus escaped from the bio-lab. Notice I said "escaped" (probably through human error) and I did NOT say that it was a bio-weapon.
If it came from the lab, that explains the massive shutdowns that the Chinese put on fairly quickly.

This is interesting.
From Jennifer Zeng (Feb 14 Twitter Post) via a reminder from Kyle Bass (Mar 29 Twitter Post)
The early (Jan 2) lockdown of Naval University of Engineering in Wuhan- one of the five comprehensive military universities of PLA-might be supportive of my belief that the virus escaped from the Wuhan bio-lab.
Regardless, it indicates how long the CCP hid the problem
Jan 2 was 18 days before the Chinese Communist Party admitted to an epidemic and 21 days before the city was locked.

>>>"Remember, the chinese military school in Wuhan issued a “Lockdown Notice” on Jan 2nd, 2020. This lockdown was issued a FULL 18 days before the chinese communist party admitted to an epidemic. It’s now clear that the CCP was busy buying up all N95 masks and gear globally."<<<<<
