Sanz was the former president of the Real Madrid football (aka soccer) club. The team was quite successful in the five years he led them. I'm not that familiar with the terminology in the sport, but I think that his position corresponds to the general manager of a U.S. professional sports team.

What's notable is that Sanz died of the coronavirus and is the most prominent personality to do so up to this point. Spain has been hard hit by the virus.

Age 76.
