The TV news here says that the majority of COVID-19 cases are for those 18-39 years old.
That's probably to be expected. I think the majority of people may be between 18 and 39 years old. --Bob

This site uses commercial data to estimate how effective social distancing has been. The data is presented at both the state and county levels. --Bob

Wouldn't that be a plurality instead of a majority? Re-the breakdown of the general population.

My cousin's son is about 40 -- he may still be 39, I dunno. He has a moderate case of the virus, and his doctor has him under a 14-day quarantine order. I dunno if that's enough, this is all uncharted waters. He travels extensively, including overseas, for his job, so I'm sure that's where he picked it up.

I'm honestly not sure. I didn't check figures, which is why I expressed myself so tentatively. It's tangential to my point, which is that you want to pay attention to disproportionate representation among a particular age cohort, rather than sheer numbers. --Bob

My observations based on their map is that the social distancing is directly proportional to the number of cases. In other words, if there aren't many cases in your area, you don't feel the need for social distancing.

The headline’s a bit misleading. The article says Italy has mostly been testing the elderly and patients with severe symptoms. South Korea is testing a bigger cross-section of the population, so they’ve detected more young patients with mild symptoms. So some of the difference in death rate is due to methodology.

From the Colorado Sun, right here in Colorado. This isn't the entire article; here's the URL:

https://coloradosun.com/2020/03/20/tell ... 9-testing/

San Miguel County in southwest Colorado through Thursday had no confirmed cases of the new coronavirus. But already it has sent a handful of people with severe respiratory ailments to hospitals where they’re receiving critical care for suspected infections.

In response and as a precaution, the county has taken some of the state’s most drastic measures to try to limit the spread of the disease. On Wednesday, the San Miguel County public health department ordered its roughly 8,000 residents to shelter in place until at least April 3.

The problem is the county, which includes the ritzy resort town of Telluride, has had little to no testing for COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus. Final results from the screening that has been done on just 38 people aren’t yet available, so health officials are essentially flying blind.

(UPDATE: On Friday, the county announced it had received word that a 54-year-old man tested positive for the virus. He is isolation at home and is “recovering well.”)

“We are presuming we have disease,” county spokesman Susan Lilly said. “We just don’t know how widespread it is.”

But two part-time Telluride residents have stepped in to try to solve the testing problem. They’re paying for everyone in the town of about 2,500 — whether they are symptomatic or not — and county to be screened twice in the coming two weeks for coronavirus using a new blood test that’s received preliminary OK from the Food and Drug Administration.

The test was created by their own company, a subsidiary of United Biomedical Inc., and some 15,000 kits will be provided — representing roughly double San Miguel County’s population. Testing will be done in the town first and then expanded out into the county.

“Data is power,” said Mei Mei Hu, who along with her husband, Lou Reese, is making the testing possible.

Rep. Thomas Massie (R Ky.) will object to unanimous consent for the relief bill and also will object to a voice vote. That means the entire House will have to reconvene, in person, in order to pass the bill. --Bob

All movie theaters in China have been closed again after some 500 opened last weekend. Not surprisingly, no reasons were given but that can't be a good sign.

Our county, Montgomery, is now on stay at home order thru Apr 12. Harris Cty, Houston, has been on for awhile. Think there are 41 cases in our county. Oh, HEB is a large grocery chain, btw.

You;re wise to shield yourselves from the epidemic that's ravaging Houston. Hope it works and your numbers stay relatively low.

Update -- a quorum of the House (more than half of its members) assembled in order to block Rep. Massie's attempt to force a roll-call vote. The bill has passed the House and is headed for the White House. --Bob

Thx. I don't go anywhere much anyway, tho now not watching the kiddos it's ironic. I am pissed that park rangers still working, even tho parks all closed. Most are geezers like us. Oh well.

The two owners of the company I work for sent out an email to all of our employees today letting them know we are in good shape and are not laying off anyone, and letting everyone take off a few hours early yesterday (Friday) to enjoy the weekend.

Needless to say, the feedback was highly positive.

At least two apartment management companies in town have gone into total shutdown mode, just keeping minimal staff on for maintenance and processing payments (such as they will be), effective this week.
