Crowds gather to buy new Air Jordans in Atlanta after lockdown lifted
https://nypost.com/2020/05/03/crowds-ga ... wn-lifted/
An Atlanta mall saw massive crowds gather Saturday to buy the new Air Jordan sneakers after lockdown restrictions were lifted, according to a report.
Shoppers packed close to form lines that wrapped outside Greenbriar Mall on Saturday to get their hands on the new Air Jordan 5 “Fire Red” sneakers, news station 11Alive reported.
Video posted to social media showed people waiting to get into the mall and then again outside the shoe store Jimmy Jazz.
“Everyone I talked to was in line for a new Air Jordan 5 that sold out online,” tweeted NBC producer Charlie Gile.
The sneaker frenzy comes after Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp allowed shelter-in-place orders to expire and encouraged businesses to reopen.

Re: Coronavirus-Aggregation Thread-Non political
A Cobb County (suburban Atlanta) dentist has filed a class action case in federal court against his insurance company for denying coverage for business loss due to the state-mandated shutdown of his practice. The policy specified that the cause of the loss had to be physical (so as not to pay claims when companies lose business due to bad management or other economic reasons). The company said the reason for the closure was the governmental lockdown order, not the coronavirus. The dentist is represented by Roy Barnes, the last Democratic governor of Georgia and one of the top plaintiff's attorneys in the state.

Re: Coronavirus-Aggregation Thread-Non political
Major league baseball has approved plans for an 82-game schedule beginning at the start of July. Teams would only play teams in their own division plus the corresponding division in the other league (AL East vs. NL East), but the existing league and division structure would be the same. There would be a 14-team playoff, but no All-Star game. The players will need to vote on this. Other provisions:
-- Games will be played in existing stadiums unless state or local rules prohibit that, in which case an alternate "home" stadium will be selected for a team.
-- Income to be split 50-50 between players and owners
-- Additional "spring" training in June without any actual games played
-- 30-player rosters with larger "taxi" squads who would presumably be located nearby so they could be called up quickly as needed.
-- Universal DH in all games
-- Other possibilities that need to be ironed out would be seven-inning doubleheaders and starting extra innings with a runner on second base (probably after the 12th inning).
The players union has to agree to this, and there's likely to be considerable opposition, since the players agreed originally to a tentative proposal where they would receive prorated salaries based on the actual number of games played. The owners say they will lose revenue from reduced attendance at many home games. Even if there's no one in the stands, TV ratings are going to be very high for people to get to see "real" baseball after months of no live sports.

Re: Coronavirus-Aggregation Thread-Non political
Contingency college football, per Paul Finebaum.
Assuming that the SEC gets itself together for college football this year (and supposedly all of the conference schools will have on-campus students), there might be a problem with the opening game between Alabama vs USC in Jerryworld in Dallas on Labor Day weekend.
The problem is that the California schools might not be in the same ready-to-play boat as the SEC ones. Further compounding the issue is that Texas wants anyone that flies in from California to go into a 14 day quarantine protocol. (So, you fly into Little Rock or Tulsa and take a bus... might hurt ticket sales though.)
So, Alabama is talking with TCU about taking over the USC slot if USC can't come.
Now, that actually makes sense on two fronts. One, TCU is about 14 miles from AT&T Stadium in Arlington. Second, TCU's first game is a road game.... at Cal. If the California universities can't play, they'd be out of a game as well. Also, under current rules, once they went to Cal to play, they would themselves be forced to quarantine upon their return.
Sounds like an interesting solution to a possible problem.

Photos posted on social media by the St Ambrose Church show the Reverend Timothy Pelc shooting water into a car window as it stopped by the steps of the church. He wore a mask, face shield and rubber gloves as further precautions against spreading the coronavirus.

Former Auburn football coach Pat Dye, who won four SEC championships, has been hospitalized with coronavirus. Ironically, one of his successors as Auburn coach, Tommy Tuberville, is the favorite to win the upcoming GOP runoff for US Senate against Jeff Sessions.

Bixby17 tweeted that the flu she had in March was Covid-19 based on an antibody test. She said it was awful.
Suitguy is not bitter.
feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive
The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

Mark Bradley is a sports columnist with the Atlanta Journal. He wrote extensively about the coronavirus in connection with the cancellation of the NCAA tournament two months ago. Now, his parish priest (who also happens to be his wife's employer) has tested positive. This is the column he wrote about it:
