Coronavirus-Aggregation Thread-Non political

Just a thought.

Lets use this thread as a non-political Coronavirus aggregation thread.

I think it would be wise for everyone to start having a few weeks of things like toilet paper and some non-perishables on hand. Store shelves will empty very quickly if things like quarantines or school closures start to be announced.

There are reports of recovered patients getting it again.

Eunice Yoon's report is only the latest info I have seen on this.

Per her-Guangdon had 14% recover and get it again.

She captured a screen shot behind a paywall and says

firsthttps://twitter.com/onlyyoontv/status/1233411834184470528

the patient in Jiangsu tested positive 2 weeks after hospital discharge and that he and his young daughter are both hospitalized.

Scary part is that "Young daughter" implies the man is not old-He is probably not a 75YO 2-pack a day diabetic smoker.

The more likely issue is disruptions to supply chains. An awful lot of American manufacturers depend on supply chains originating in affected countries. --Bob

One of the more important items to start gathering in your house, based on what I am hearing on the news from the Nebraska Med Center disease experts, is ibuprofen, acetaminophen, and similar flu/respiratory illness items.

[With the med center being a leading hospital for treating diseases like Ebola, MERS, SARS, and now CoVid-19, it is interesting living here when outbreaks/pandemics occur.]

My family in HI are reporting outages of things. No confirmed cases yet mostly because they do not have the required test available.

Reccomended my sister go to the PX, buy a couple of cases of Spam and a 50 lb bag of rice and all should be good! j/k.

They are experiencing super long lines at the gas stations too.

If it's that bad now, it's going to be total panic when there are thousands of cases.

The other thing to stock up on. Maintenance meds. Call you Dr and get a 90 day supply of things like high blood pressure meds and insulin. Last place you want to be is in a drug store full of sick people.

The reason why everyone (media, political reps, bloggers on the internet) needs to remain rational and not overstate what it is the threat here. I do not recall this level of clamor over SARS, MERS, H1N1, or other "bad flu" seasons.

Be prepared, but lets not assume plague-level hysteria.

Don’t forget things for you four-footers too. Pet food, their meds etc. I have doubled my cat food and litter purchases, along with my stock goods.

I donated blood this morning. Thought I’d be deferred because I got a vaccine this week, or because I recently was in Cuba, but no worries. A Chinese exchange student, who used her Chinese passport as ID, donated too. Glad there’s no panic here.
political humor
And gay men are no longer banned for life. Does Pence know how lax they’ve become?

Thx for political humor in the wrong thread.

To expand my thought on stocking up on things like TP and some non-perishables, most likely there will be stuff on shelves long-term, but you might want to have as few visits as possible to stores and so forth.

We went to Costco this a.m.

We have always done the periodic Costco/BJ's shopping because we've split the large quantities over the years -- TLAF, Boonie's brother Greg, the shore house and neighbors.

Now, we tend to stock up on TP and such so we did so today.

We also got bottled water as a backup for the shore, where we need to filter the water anyway. We do the Zero Water filter pitcher and will be installing a Brita for the spigot on the kitchen sink. We take the filtered water then fill 2.5 gallon containers.

As we were checking out, I noticed the number of people who had Clorox wipes. Two and three packages of three large containers of wipes.

We both just got the 90-day supplies of our maintenance meds and we do keep large bottles of Aleve on hand.

Before I wrote this, I saw that there are 11 new cases in San Antonio today.

We are on our fourth one. Not because they broke, we moved.

It looks like we might have our first school closure.

The Oregon case (possibly community infected) worked at a Clackamas County school.

At a minimum, I suppose it will be closed for thorough cleaning. Otherwise, it will be two weeks or longer.

Another school in Washington state is reportedly closing for 3 days for deep cleaning after a student was found to have Coronavirus.

The following is a link to a John Hopkins worldwide case counter data thingie that is pretty good.

First US death announced in Washington state.

At this point, we don't know if this is a new case, or one of the previously announced cases.

I went grocery shopping today (usual day). Two stores; neither seemed low on anything significant. There was plenty of bottled water and toilet paper. It's definitely not like the runs that they go on here whenever there's a snowstorm warning. The stores all look picked over of just about everything when that happens.

I went to Costco yesterday, the normal pasta was all gone. Also, the pharmacies around me are pretty much out of hand sanitizer.
