I don't know what the big hits elsewhere were, but KROQ played them a lot in the latter 80's. They had at least one song on most every "Top 80 Songs of" annual list. Here are a few that you may not have heard:

But that was part of the joke. Of course it wasn't his jersey because he has always had the number 0. Get it? Love....zero. It's a multi-sport pun! Which reminds me of the other night, my mom calls asking why Mason Plumlee is wearing 7. I tell her it's because has had 24 which was Kobe's number and a lot of 24s and, to a lesser extent, 8s are changing their numbers. Which I attribute a lot of that to peer pressure. So she says, "Gallinari is still wearing 8". Duh! Gallo has always had 8 and he won't give that up for nothin' because he's 8/8/88. Side note: I really don't understand all of the 8 business, because, after all, Kobe discarded that one. But, like I said, peer pressure....
