Good morning sir, or ma'am, as the case may be. My name's Columbo, I'm a lieutenant. Homicide. I came by today to ask you a couple questions about some songs... (digs through trenchcoat pockets)... hmmm, I had that game with me just a minute ago. Well, anyway sir or ma'am... this is a Theme Thursday game, so that means we need to find a common link between all of these... what? It's Monday? (Checks watch. Taps on the glass in vain to get watch going again) Well, who can tell what day it is with how busy I stay? Well, I guess that's about it.... oh wait, I do have one more question. Have you seen my wife anywhere. I keep talking about her, but even I haven't seen her since our wedding day! Oh well, no big loss. Have a nice day, sir or ma'am!

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist, 3 points for the theme...

1. Than sit around the house
Get high and watch the tube
And here`s what happened
When they decided to cut loose

2. One foot on the brake
And one on the gas, hey

3. Well, I'm on my way
I don't know where I'm going
I'm on my way
I'm taking my time
But I don't know where

4. And the sound of the battle rang
Through the streets of the old east side
Til the last of the hoodlum gang
Had surrendered up or died

5. The poor cook, he caught the fits
And threw away all my grits
And then he took and
He ate up all of my corn

6. It's got safety tubes
But I ain't scared
The brakes are good
The tires fair

7. There just ain't no excuse and you know you're gonna lose
You never win, I'll say it again

8. My mom started bugging
With the clothes she chose
I didn't say nothing at first
I just turned up my nose

9. Dallas, got a soft machine
Houston, too close to New Orleans
New York got the ways and means
But just won`t let you be

10. It hurts to see the man that I've become
And to know I'll never see the morning sunshine on the land
I'll never see your smiling face or touch your hand

11. I done made some plans for later on tonight
I'll find a little queen and I know I can treat her right

12. I told her that I
Was a flop with chicks
I've been this way
Since 1956

Theme?

Snuck one in under the wire.
1. Than sit around the house
Get high and watch the tube
And here`s what happened
When they decided to cut loose

Take the Money and Run

2. One foot on the brake
And one on the gas, hey

3. Well, I'm on my way
I don't know where I'm going
I'm on my way
I'm taking my time
But I don't know where

4. And the sound of the battle rang
Through the streets of the old east side
Til the last of the hoodlum gang
Had surrendered up or died

5. The poor cook, he caught the fits
And threw away all my grits
And then he took and
He ate up all of my corn

6. It's got safety tubes
But I ain't scared
The brakes are good
The tires fair

7. There just ain't no excuse and you know you're gonna lose
You never win, I'll say it again

8. My mom started bugging
With the clothes she chose
I didn't say nothing at first
I just turned up my nose

9. Dallas, got a soft machine
Houston, too close to New Orleans
New York got the ways and means
But just won`t let you be

10. It hurts to see the man that I've become
And to know I'll never see the morning sunshine on the land
I'll never see your smiling face or touch your hand

11. I done made some plans for later on tonight
I'll find a little queen and I know I can treat her right

12. I told her that I
Was a flop with chicks
I've been this way
Since 1956

Lt Columbo

Take the Money and Run - Steve Miller

clapclapclapclapclap

I was watching some true crime show the other day and one of the lawmen was named Bill Mack. I wonder if they're constantly giving him the business about letting BJ and BS get away....

2. One foot on the brake
And one on the gas, hey

I Can't Drive 55 - Sammy Hagar

Me, neither. Except when I was coming back from Monument Saturday and it took my 35 minutes to go 5 miles. What the fudge? thought I. Until we were about 1 mile from the North Gate of the Academy and the right lane wasn't moving at all (thank God I was in the middle lane). Then it hit me, the Avalanche were playing in the Stadium Series this year. And Falcon Stadium holds about 80k.
Sure enough, once I was past the exit there was no traffic at all, but then it was the northbound lanes that looked like a parking lot.

3. Well, I'm on my way
I don't know where I'm going
I'm on my way
I'm taking my time
But I don't know where

Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard - Paul Simon

4. And the sound of the battle rang
Through the streets of the old east side
Til the last of the hoodlum gang
Had surrendered up or died

The Night Chicago Died - Paper Lace

I was hoping for Billy Don't Be a Hero to also make an appearance and some cool, arcane Paper Lace theme, but alas...

5. The poor cook, he caught the fits
And threw away all my grits
And then he took and
He ate up all of my corn

Sloop John B - Beach Boys

I hate this song so very much. Probably on my top 10 of musical hatred. It ought to be against the law....hey!

6. It's got safety tubes
But I ain't scared
The brakes are good
The tires fair

Hot Rod Lincoln - Johnny Bond

7. There just ain't no excuse and you know you're gonna lose
You never win, I'll say it again

Your Momma Don't Dance - Poison

Sorry, had to be done...

8. My mom started bugging
With the clothes she chose
I didn't say nothing at first
I just turned up my nose

Parents Just Don't Understand - Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince

And I watched The Brady Bunch Behind Closed Doors Sunday night. I'm just prescienting all over the place here...

9. Dallas, got a soft machine
Houston, too close to New Orleans
New York got the ways and means
But just won`t let you be

Truckin - The Grateful Dead

10. It hurts to see the man that I've become
And to know I'll never see the morning sunshine on the land
I'll never see your smiling face or touch your hand

Indiana Wants Me - R Dean Taylor

11. I done made some plans for later on tonight
I'll find a little queen and I know I can treat her right

What's Your Name - Lynyrd Skynyrd

12. I told her that I
Was a flop with chicks
I've been this way
Since 1956

Love Potion No. 9 - Clovers

Theme?

The laws make an appearance or get a mention at some point

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that fits the theme of today's game.

Cocaine Blues - Johnny Cash

Hot Rod Lincoln - Commander Cody and the Lost Planet Airmen (He wasn't the first or the last to do this song, but it's the only version that matters...)

7. There just ain't no excuse and you know you're gonna lose
You never win, I'll say it again
Your Mama Don't Dance - Loggins & Messina (Poison's version is OK, but I never think about it since I conflate it with the superior Crue version of "Smokin' in the Boys Room"...)

Love Potion #9 - Searchers, Seekers, something like that

Theme? - These songs all mention the police. Law enforcement was the key item you had to have in your theme guess... not just criminal activity

Image Bonus: If you know the theme, show me a fitting image.

I don't know what the record is for most IBB's in a single LSWE season, but Weasel is on a roll with his third IBB in the last six games! Brown bears matter....

Dammit, it was NOT unintentional, that's what I searched for! I was shocked, SHOCKED! I tell you, that I didn't get the IBB....

Also, while I had to go old school on Johnny Bond, and as much as I dig George Frayne (I have a piano-based anecdote about him that I have probably shared in the past but, if not, I'll save it for when it counts), the ne plus ultra of Hot Rod Lincoln is Asleep at the Wheel.

Coincidentally, Ray Benson was one of the commentators on the episode of Country Music I saw last week (and, to date, the only ep I've seen) and he still has that magnificent voice.

Also, Cocaine Blues should have gotten something. Because, you know, JJ Cale. So much for country music being squaresville BITD, huh? You know, that would be fun to have a Kroxquo Bonus Bonus next year. Then people could be rewarded for taking the time to think of an imaginative or clever krox rather than just the easy way. Like some of us already do, although it's sometimes hard to tell...

Okay, I'm done now. Don't you all miss me when I'm not here and you can't read my Fun Fact answers?

Asleep at the Wheel! One of our faves. Saw them in Chicago and elsewhere back in the day. They are the best. Have you ever heard of Jump in the Saddle? Some stories

I noticed the first time through. But I skim when I do the Krox summary, and I was determined to make sure to mention the grammar fix since I always think of you every time I hear the awkward sounding "Blank and I..."
