I naturally think of skin care

Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

I am becoming increasingly annoyed by bazillionaires who tell me that I should spend more for everything to buy organic products that meet their "green" standards to make up for the extra fuel they use to heat and cool their mansions and the extra gasoline they burn in their Hummers and Bentleys, thereby permitting their consciences to be clear.

I suspect Jo would be horrified by people who grow their own vegetables simply because it's cheaper.
