Let's avoid any possible shenanigans tomorrow morning and go ahead and get the Friday game posted now!
For this weekend's game, I chose 12 songs that were made famous by one artist, but were actually written by another famous artist who had plenty of pop success. I already knew a few offhand, and did some research to fill out the game and made some discoveries that certainly surprised me. Most of these songs are well known for being written by another big shot in the music industry, but a few aren't as common kowledge. All of these songs were either not recorded by the songwriter, were not a hit for the songwriter, or in one case completely (and unfairly) upstaged the original songwriter's hit. In all of the songs below, the famous artist has sole songwriting credit. Had I veered into songs where one famous artist was merely the main songwriter among a group of creditees.... boy would that have been an interesting game. Paul Shaffer co-wrote "It's Raining Men".... who knew!?!? (Note: I won't hold you to the single songwriter qualification for the Krox)
1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist known for recording it, and 1 point for the famous songwriter...
1. I thought love was more or less a givin' thing
Seemed the more I gave the less I got
2. Madman drummers, bummers
Indians in the summer
With a teenage diplomat
3. But I can't be late
'Cause then I guess I just won't get paid
These are the days
When you wish your bed was already made
4. Did I hear you say that there must be a catch
Will you walk away from a fool and his money?
5. If I should stay,
I would only be in your way.
So I'll go, but I know
I'll think of you ev'ry step of the way.
6. You knew someday I'd have a whole lotta money
I'd be a millionaire
But when that didn't happen overnight
I found out how much you really cared
7. Hello lamppost, What cha knowing?
I've come to watch your flowers growing.
Ain't cha got no rhymes for me?
8. For so many years I thought I'd never find you
You have come into my life and made me whole
Forever let me wake to see you each and every morning
Let me hear you whisper softly in my ear
9. And maybe it's the time of year
Yes and maybe it's the time of man
And I don't know who I am
But life is for learning
10. And I'm sure going to give you a try
And if you want I'll try to love again
Baby I'll try to love again but I know
11. There must be some kind of way outta here
said the joker to the thief
12. So if you look in my direction
And we don't see eye to eye,
My heart needs protection and so do I.
Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that was originally written by another famous artist who didn't have a hit with it (And make sure to name the songwriter for 3 total points).
Image Bonus: Gee, songwriters make for boring image bonuses. So instead, pick any famous song from pop music history and show me an image that could have been the inspiration behind it.
