The legendary advertising mascot for Planters Peanuts, originality from Wilkes-Barre, Pa., was 104.

Ironically, he was part of one of my second-round questions that got me on the show -- arranging the advertising icons in order of introduction. (The others were the Jolly Green Giant, Pillsbury Doughboy, and Energizer bunny).

According to the article, he was in a car accident with Wesley Snipes. I could have sworn that Snipes died a few years ago. Or maybe that was just his career.

Apparently, Planters is scaling back the Mr. Peanut death campaign in light of Kobe Bryant's death, but the original 30-second ad will run as scheduled during the Super Bowl.

Maybe I'm just an unfeeling clod, but it seems that only the hypersensitive would make a connection between the two.
