The Supreme Court will (probably) rule this Term on a case deciding whether states can compel or coerce electors to cast their votes in accordance with their state's vote (or replace electors who refuse to do so). There is a split of authority on the issue. I'm glad the Court took up this case in time to decide it substantially before the election. --Bob

This is something I've never been able to understand. Even in a big state like California or Texas, how difficult is it for the two major parties to find 40-50 people loyal to their candidate?

I would imagine that some seats as electors are given as political rewards to people with pull of one sort or another. Also, I wouldn't be shocked if, in at least some states, electors have to be selected before the nominee is known. --Bob
