REVIEW: The Mandalorian

I just watched episode 1 of season 1 The Mandalorian on Disney+. I was prepared for a somewhat inferior story but was greatly surprised. The script by Jon Favreau was excellent. His sense of humor, sometimes dark, shows throughout the episode. The setting is shortly after the fall of the Empire and wild-west-like anarchy exists on the fringes of the New Republic. The Mandalorian is a bounty hunter operating alone. There is the usual assortment of strange creatures as supporting and background actors, some are very recognizable from the main films. (To say more would be to spoil it.) The CGI and SFX are first-rate. Their credits read as long as for the principle Star Wars films. The landscapes are bleak but beautiful, probably in southwest America or Mexico.

Disney has poured a lot of money into a 40-minute episode. They expect to get it back from the subscriptions, of course.

The next episode will be available Friday and each following Friday for a total of eight episodes this season.

Actually, since Death Valley was used in addition to Tunisia for Tattooine, it might have been used in The Mandalorian.
