Aww, how sweet of everyone! I finally got around to visiting the internet cafe here on board the ship...I've just been too too too busy!
Unfortunately, we left all the good weather behind in Maui...it's been cold and rainy and windy for the sail back to civilization (as civilized as Vancouver may be!).
Met a bunch of great people, and one who I'm pretty sure is usually followed on land by flying monkeys (I swear I heard her mention something about "slippers" the other day). On the whole, though, a really nice group.
Got my karaoke on last night (some Jimmy Buffet - "Come Monday", a little REM - "Losing My Religion", a couple of others), and had a ball. Birthday on board was a blast (I got totally trashed on all the free drinks people were buying me!), and I've been kickin' ass and takin' names at the Texas Hold 'em table...
I already miss Hawaii, and really really really want to go back. Permanently, even. But that's probably not meant to be.
One last thing, since this is costing me a fortune (these rates really bite). It's a bit of a story, so bear with me.
Thirty-one years ago, my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. At that time, she was given six months. Twelve years later, she finally passed away, at the age of 65...and those twelve years were generally good. Today would be her 84th birthday...and karma has chosen today for the ship's "On Deck for the Cure" 1-mile walk fundraiser for the Susan Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. So I'm headed from here topside for a nice walk (non-competitive...and it being cold and rainy it won't be entirely pleasant!), in honor of Mom. So all I ask is that you all think about your loved ones, say a prayer for anyone you know who has been touched in some way by breast cancer, and at least consider making a donation to help. My mother thanks you, my father thanks you, and I thank you.
