I've been lucky so far in that I've never had to endure watching someone important in my life lose themselves in this way. I really can't imagine what you must be going through and I hope I never need to live it. I'm sorry for your family's difficulties. --Bob

I'm sorry to hear this. My thoughts are with you and your brother.

I hope it goes well for your brother. We went this direction with my MIL several years ago and while we wanted to fight the thought of the inevitable path she was on I have to say that it was a definite improvement in life for her. Once she settled into her new routine and surroundings she became much calmer, less confused and definitely happier. It's a totally different life and not one that anyone would want to be in under normal circumstances but once you realize that the 'new normal' works it becomes easier to accept.

Thanks everyone. The sitters we engaged to help with the transition have been just what we needed. So far so good.

My impression is that memory care has improved greatly since we were going through it with my grandmother. I hope that's true for your family.
