Stock market (political)

Yes, I'm back in a political mood. Sorry. If you don't want to read it, move along, please.
The Trump apologists I've seen here and elsewhere have said something to the effect of "don't pay attention to what he says, look at what he does." They also are fond of bragging about what a great economy we have going in the US.
If the stock market experiences the downturn it looks like it's headed for, and the economy equivalently crashes, will those apologists blame Trump, "who alone can fix," or will they accept his scapegoats, like Jerome Powell and China?
It is clear to me that the tariffs and trade wars are having a strong negative effect on the world economy. It's not only hurting the US, but every country worldwide. I'm admittedly not an economic expert, so I could be wrong. But is there something I'm missing here? Educate me, please.

The stock market isn't the key indicator. Too many inputs can affect it in both direction. Keep an eye on the bond markets. Spoiler alert: An inversion is very bad news.
As for the tariffs, Paul Krugman just wrote a piece about them. The problem isn't the tariffs so much as Donny's utter unpredictability. No one with capital improvements to make knows whether its better to make them here or overseas. And that means that everyone who can wait, does so. That's a real problem, and it's not going to get better for a little more than 17 months. --Bob

And of course, trump is minimizing the inversion.

Your giddiness is duly noted, if misplaced.

We do have a great economy.

Sometimes the victim must fight the bully and in doing so takes some shots and gets a black eye. China does not want Trump re-elected because Trump fights back. China has not played fair but no other US politician has had the will to try and control it. Trump is doing that. But I'm sure the left won't admit that and as many have indicated they hope the economy crashes so they can use it as a tool to get rid of Trump.

Well, at least the president, like Ernest T. Bass, has saved Christmas.

Money quote: Trump told reporters Tuesday afternoon that he did in fact delay the tariffs for the benefit of holiday shoppers. “We’re doing this for the Christmas season,” he said. “Just in case some of the tariffs would have an impact on U.S. customers.” Lest anybody take this as a tacit admission that maybe tariffs are bad for American consumers generally, though, Trump elaborated a bit. “So far they’ve had virtually none,” he added. “But just in case they might have an impact on people, what we’ve done is we’ve delayed it, so that they won’t be relevant to the Christmas shopping season.”

You've confused Ernest T. Bass (Andy Griffith show) with Ernest P. Worrell (Jim Varney's character). Know whadImean Vern?
