Could Have Been a "Deadline"

Google "Farmer trapped in grain bin." Could have been me yesterday.
Long story short:
I got sucked down into grain yesterday; up to my armpits. Salvage operation to save good corn at the back of a wrecked bin with rotten stuff at the front.
I was pretty happy when my feet hit the cement as I knew I wasn't going down any farther.
You can't move a muscle.
I was fortunate in 2 things. My legs were straight under me. On my knees, I would have kept going down. Also, I kept my arms above the corn.
Also, I had been planning this project for awhile, If I had done it earlier with more corn in the bin, it wouldn't have been so good.
Many (way too many?) firemen/first responder types there. They get excited when they hear of a bin rescue. They cut holes in the bin to let grain out and so forth. Old bin anyway.
They had a helicopter on site. They are worried about goofy things with your veins and blood flow and so forth because of the pressure.

Good planning! I'm glad that worked out so well.

I'm glad you're okay. Thanks for the reminder that farming can be physically hazardous. --Bob

I've seen this depicted in movies, and the thought is plenty scary, so I can imagine what you must have felt. I'm glad you got out of that okay.

That could have been REALLY bad.
At least you gave the first responders some fun.

Obviously my holy crap was accompanied by a prayer of thanks for safety. Just curious,
were all nerve endings jangling or were you calm or what?

Also The Dressmaker, an Australian film about five years back with Kate Winslet. Her boyfriend (one of the Hemsworth brothers) met the fate that Spock fortunately avoided.

I realized what was happening when I was about mid-thigh, Started to get pretty nervous from that point. I was relieved when my foot hit the floor when I was about armpit level as I knew I wouldn't go down any farther.
Concern at that point was the corn above me that could possibly fall in on me. I was in a funnel-shaped hole thingie. Prior to the emergency crews getting there-Dad and Li'l Spock and a neighbor put shovels around to act as a dam.
Li'l Spock was running the equipment outside the bin and when the truck was full, figured out where I was and stopped it.
Oddly enough, the only problem today is that my big toe hurts some. My right heel was on top of my left big toe and that hurt throughout.
I put my workboots on and then my toe started hurting. Turned out there is a major dent in my boot from my right heel. May have to get rid of the boots (They are well-used.)
Li'l Spock got nervous when he heard that they might have to air-lift me.
Oh, at about mid-stomach, I realized my phone might be in my pocket, so I tried to get it and failed. I retrospect, I am glad my arm didn't get pinned under at that point. That would have sucked.
