Actually, an early Hauer film that's very good is Soldier of Orange, directed by Paul Verhoeven back when he was making real movies. It's the true story of Dutch espionage efforts against the Germans in World War II and there's plenty of sex and action in it, but it's also a very good dramatic war story (I'm not sure if there are any dubbed versions around or not).
