Baseball player turned author and occasional actor. After his career fizzled out in the late 1960s, he wrote Ball Four, an expose of his time with the New York Yankees and other teams. He also did some acting, including a featured role in Robert Altman's The Long Goodbye. His book was turned into a short-lived TV series in which he played a fictionalized version of himself.

Age 80.

I read Ball Four not long after it came out and was amazed. I guess I had to know that a lot of extracurricular activity went on after the game was over, but I found it amazing anyway.
